Same thing could be said for playing video games in general. Or spending decades of your life chasing after the constant flow of new stuff on a mmorpg as some obviously do.



I did say what I expect. But it is also true that I am comparing forums a little bit, ODaT with Being a DIK. The BAD forum is a constant whirlwind madhouse of people positing, guessing all sorts of things. It helps keep interest in the game going, which is useful to the dev when time between updates is so long. The interesting thing for me is that the f95 forum is the most interesting one around for BAD. My suspicion is that that forum is part of the reason for the success of the game, even though downloads here are considered pirated by the game dev.

His first game is the reason for the success of that game. I'd wager to guess at least 50% of the people who play that don't even come on here. He's so big at this point he doesn't need this place, and that's just a fact. Just telling it like I see it. To further my point though, I know another developer who pitched their idea to him when she was starting out and he told her to avoid this place completely. We both didn't agree with what he said, thus we are both here (not her so much anymore because her game has gotten big too), but I know several devs who have abandoned this site altogether and don't participate in any way. Because they don't have to. Now, I'm here because I like some of the people here a lot. But, there are enough to make it not even worth a dev like me to come on. Yes, I appreciate the free advertisement, but it comes with having to deal with some unsavory people now and then. I'm talking real A holes. That's why I take breaks.

Could I be ok without coming on here at this point? Probably, but there are too many cool people who keep me coming back, and it outweighs the ones who are simple human trash.

The sad thing is that I completely understand and can relate to what you are saying. This platform is both a blessing and a curse at the same time. Without this board, I wouldn't have discovered AVN as a hobby and neither would I know about ODaaT. On the other hand, there really are a lot of extremely toxic people on here. All I know is that I would never be a dev here. It feels like half of the users here are not yet adults, at least not in their minds. However, I honestly wouldn't know where else to hang out. Reddit is garbage and I don't know of any other platform where you can talk about AVN.

However, I've also had a hard time here in the last two months and have deliberately avoided some threads because I know that trolls, often always the same ones, are always hanging around there and I just didn't want to put up with them. Unfortunately, this thread here is always one of them. I have no idea what problem some fragile weenies with ODaaT have that they keep picking this game of all games to spout nonsense. Sometimes it seems like it's always the same three or four people with different accounts who keep coming back. But other devs have the same problem here. The F95 community has already driven many devs away, which doesn't exactly enhance the platform. Where else could you have a direct conversation with devs?

Ok everyone, I'm not gonna quote numbers and all that stuff because it's really early, we are less then two weeks in since I came back, but I wanted to get this dev update out while I'm sort of letting something marinate.

I'm having an issue that just won't leave me alone, and that's a scene that will happen on the first day of the update. I've done a few of the breakfast scenes with Barb and am at the point I need to start animating, which is fine.

But, what I've mostly been doing is writing this scene I'm not going to tell you about that's been bugging me. It's a really important moment in this update as it will have ramifications for a character for the rest of the game. I wouldn't call what I'm going through writers block with it. It's kind of the opposite, I have too many ideas and I can't pick one (maybe that's a form of writer block idk).

It's not like this hasn't happened before, but I usually just work around whatever scene is bothering me. However, no matter what I start trying to write my mind keeps calling me back to the scene. I feel like I need to nail it down before I move on.

I've made a deal with myself though. I've done four drafts of it over the past week or so, and I'm going to allow myself just one more. Then when it comes time for the scene I'm going to pick which one feels right from the five I have. I'm also not going to apologize for wanting to nail this, because it's really important to me. If I were just doing a surface game like most VN's I wouldn't run into things like this, but you guys know me and this game. It's more than that.

The writing is huge part of it and on this occasion I just don't know where I want to go yet 100% for this particular part. I think all of the drafts I have to this point would be good, but I just can't make myself pick one. So, as I said I'm gonna write one more, then after that leave it in the lap of the Gods, and just use what feels right when I get there.

Good news is pretty much the whole rest of the update is outlined. So, after I write this last draft it will be full speed ahead! Sometimes as a writer I think you have to let certain things sit. And again, I'm unapologetic for allowing myself to do that and the time I've put into this scene.

That's it for now. I'm gonna check back in with you guys probably the first week in February. Because, I should have a lot more to share by then. Not that I feel what I have for the time I've been working again is anything to scoff at. I am just having a little hang up, which I think happens to all writers, but it shall be overcome!

I do appreciate that you are willing to interact with players. So many devs are not.

Generally, I think, many people come online to express behaviors they don't dare to express irl. That will be true in nearly any forum. Often there are moderators around to minimize the bloodflow, that might be small consolation.

Who said Barb was going anywhere? She's one of the top LI's in the game. Just because you can't only have her until her ending, doesn't mean she's going anywhere. In fact I'd consider her if I had to go top to bottom in LI's and rank them, which I don't really want to do. But, she's top three if not second to Lydia in most realistic for MC to end up with if we're basing things on what he would most realistically choose. The beauty of it IMO though, is you can pick pretty much any girl you want or all of them and get their endings.

Which to me is better than being pigeon holed. Also as I've mentioned a ton of times. This is an ensemble cast. Think of the movie Crash. It wouldn't work without all of those characters, and neither will my game.

Mutually, of course. Yeh, I know, things cool off after 15-20 years, but they are still very good, and the memory of how they were sustains especially when the body can't do it any more. That is why the passion needed to be there in the first place. Along with all the other stuff, trust, honesty, when times were tough you were still there helping not harping, all that.

Of course you do. And it is simply a game. And nobody is forced to play it. Exactly like my opinions are simply opinions and nobody is forced to react to them in any way. But they might respond with their own opinions if they should so choose.

You are right, it is a mistake to identify with the mc, even though players mostly do it. I do think that such games (and paper novels and stories generally) are really about us and how we find our lives. And it is ok to talk about that.

Some people have hard time immersing themselves in stories and others immerse themselves too much and think they should be able to determine everything about the MC and the story. It's why some people also complain about "forced LIs", not understanding that while it's a game where they are in control, they are still playing through the writer's story and have to stick within the limitations that the writer has set.

She's both a confident and fragile woman so I kinda had to agree. I didn't really need sold any more than I already was, but when she said she wanted to do an open top tit shot, that pretty much sealed the deal.

I hope you guys got the chance for her to open up to you in the last update and be vulnerable. It almost made me cry writing that scene. Because her character really did put herself out there in a way she'd not done before in her life.

Almost made you cry. I admit her text was really sweet. But what you show me here is a 15 year old's wet dream. Nothing wrong with that if you are 15, but even a 15 year old can also have a crush that might not look quite like that. I am reminded of the old song

Ok, there is one historical figure like that that I know of. George Sand the novelist. But even she was picky,

Sounds like you answered my question. You don't experience love, at least not any more.

Because it isn't about being possessive. It is about feeling. If your partner screws around, you could allow yourself to feel betrayed, and look elsewhere. But you don't need to express possession. The old saw about, if you love somebody, set them free ( If they return, they are yours) applies. That would be in their own heart, you still would not have possession. But it can help a lot to know what is in their heart.

Getting that requires giving the same on your part and all the risks of vulnerability. Word on the street is that the risk is worth it. YMMV.
