its been a genre for at least 25 years now. probably an earlier one than the one i know but Inuyasha is an isekai and it came out in 1996

Considering hor popular the series is I must doubt the veracity of this statement.
This game has a ridiculously high rating for a nukige (8.09 out of 241 reviews on VNDB). I'll have to check it out.
