Gonna be brutally honest: I think only someone with very thin skin would take Ruth's banter as anything other than joking. The vast majority of their interaction is playful teasing on a level not much different than I've had with other friends, and is clearly what the dev intended.
I should point out that the MC does bruise like a peach. Perhaps he's a method gamer that's really into self-insertion.

This was exactly my thought as well when I played, it reminded me of the back and forth jabs I trade with some friends and family members. It's why I used the word banter in that post to describe it.

The only time I recall Ruth getting legitimately angry at the MC is when he brings up her ex boyfriend. And even then she just gives him a warning and leaves.

Man people these days are such pussies. Back where I grew up, if a friend played a prank on you, at most you might punch him and then laugh about it afterwards. These days you need ten rounds of group therapy where you cry about how bad it made you feel. Man up for fucks sake and learn to laugh at yourself. Modern day feminist nonsense got everyone acting like little girls.

"Oh no I am a self-inserting mega dweeb. I feel so violated by Amber getting an unauthorized eyeful of my virtual mega-dong. It was basically rape! Off to the farm with her!"

She's a grown woman, not a 12 year old. It's childish and immature. Most people leave that shit back in high school.

It's one of my biggest gripes about this story. Is there actually anyone who doesn't either insult, put the mc down, offer back-handed compliments of call him names?

And for the whiners who gop on about thick skins...tsk? Called not being a fucking moron and growing the fuck up once you leave your single digit years. Also called having some godamn resspect for other people and for yourself. And yes, most of these insults come from a bitch with a stick up her ass who really needs to get laid and drop her egfo down a notch or two. What's funny banter to one person really isn't to someone else. Nothing to do with having a thin skin, about having some standards in how you let people treat you

And our MC...yeah, let that shit wash all over him, pathetic. Don't get me wroing, I quite like Ruth, but I wouldn't put up with that shit from anyone, least alone from her, but I guess as usual she gets the red head simp pass from most folk.

Everyone's going to have different friendship experiences I suppose, but I have to disagree with you here about joking banter being just for children.

I have multiple close friendships that have lasted 30+ years that still enjoy some teasing banter. No one takes it personally or as anything other than a joke. And if the topic is a serious or sensitive one, we're perfectly capable of being respectful and supportive about it and having meaningful conversation.

Do I treat strangers or people in a professional setting that way? Hell no. I don't even treat all my friends that way if I know they would actually be bothered by it. So given that Ruth and MC don't have a prior relationship I can kind of understand why that might bother people. But from the perspective of a budding friendship/attraction, most of their dialogue doesn't bother me, particularly because it doesn't seem to bother MC and Ruth can tell that it doesn't bother him.

P.S. Even psychologists generally agree that teasing banter can have positive impacts on adult relationships so long as it's light-hearted, well-intentioned, mutual, and doesn't negatively impact the target.

Edit: This applies to MC's other friendships as well, not just Ruth.

In my experience it's the exact opposite of this. As kids and teens we were more likely to take playful verbal sparring too seriously and get into actual fights over it. Plus we were more likely to cross lines we shouldn't have.

Its something I picked up from observing my grandpa and uncles at family get togethers. If he were still around and I told my grandpa he was being childish with that banter he probably would have told me off with a big grin on his face. Then laughed his ass off about it.

As we matured we learned both to take the verbal jabs as the jokes they are and what topics to avoid so things don't actually get heated.

I've found some friendly banter goes a long way toward lightening the mood when things get too serious. And it can keep the get togethers lively instead of dull.

As far as the MC and Ruth in this game goes, my thought when I saw their back and forth wasn't "Why isn't he getting mad/annoyed by this?" it was more "Damn, they're really hitting it off, already trading banter like old friends."

Precisely. It's a way to maintain playfulness in relationships.

okay okay, ive given it a lot of thought.

Yes! Ruth/MC relationship is a playful dynamic. and i enjoy it, mostly.
Yes! Ruth behaves like an elementary schooler, picking on the boy she has a crush on without realizing she is crushing.
Yes! MC really just puts up with it cause he is simping for her hard. he is hoping to get into her pants, and knows calling her out or retaliating will make that a certain never instead of the ambigous maybe he has right now.

though none of these things are contradictory to one another, it explains all the commentary about Ruth MC. if i self inserted with the MC i would have to tell Ruth to go fuck herself. but since im just reading a story, im good watching him simp ruth, cause its only simping when theres no pay off. eventually MC is gonna plow the superbitch. hopefully he doesnt go to prison considering she is emotionally a 5th grader.

Some of it might be MC tolerating it to get in her pants, but her teasing honestly just doesn't seem to bother him. I can't remember a time he acted genuinely upset or actually hurt by it. He returns some teasing himself too. And if it doesn't bother him, why ask her to stop?

After all, Fraser teases MC too, but I doubt MC wants to get in his pants. :ROFLMAO:

Because he lets everyone walk all over him. I lost count of the name calling and insults in the bunker room from Ruth and Ghost. Was that just 'banter' at the time? No...it wasn't.

Todd doesn't. Todd is nice to MC. All Todd does is chill at his computer and teleport people.
As for the women, Amber is the only one I can think of who has a different dynamic with him and is usually pretty straight and sincere with MC. When she isn't open she explains that she just didn't want to disturb MC and Evelyn.
Moonsong has banter but its pretty light.
Ghost is a bitch right now but she has hardcore trust issues.
Ruth is... difficult. But that was pretty obviously going to be the case with her backstory.
Emerald might be the VN trope of frontloading with sex and have more character stuff later. MC tried to get Evyln to get serious this last update but she diflected.

Coldsnap will be interesting whenever her story comes up because even though she has an attitude ,MC at least so far diffuses by shooting it back to her which makes her laugh.

At that point he was essentially being judged by the team as a prospective recruit. In the sisterhoods shoes, I would most definitely toss some insults his way, just to gauge how he reacts. Especially knowing what his power is. If he's hot tempered he's a threat. I wouldn't trust someone with a short fuse to join my team and definitely wouldn't trust transferring my power to him.

And from the MCs point of view, he actively wants to join their team. Why even chance ruining a once in a lifetime opportunity to not only join with his favorite heroes, but to even potentially fuck em all? It was basically a job interview for his dream job. He wasn't going to risk blowing it by being hot headed.

Soon after his power became apparent and he was chatting with Moonsong about it others with a similar power to his came up in the conversation. I can't recall the specifics but do remember it wasn't good. Something about them being corrupted by the power they had, and needing to be taken care of. So the MC was, in essence, warned right then to watch his temper, or else the consequences could be severe.

In school he's at the bottom of the totem pole, being powerless in a school full of powered people. So yeah, I'm sure he had to endure more than his share of bullshit and learned to bite his tongue so things don't get even worse. He has powers now, but has to keep them hidden. And even if he didn't, the principal clearly doesn't like him and has the power to send students to the farm at his discretion. Which he uses frequently. So him rocking the boat at school is a terrible idea.

Essentially the MC is a guy who's been conditioned over a long period to keep his cool because he knows if he doesn't, things could get very bad for him, real fast.

We've already seen this changing somewhat with how he treats Lucia, especially if you're on her manipulation path. And as his confidence grows along with his powerset I don't see him remaining so passive. But I also don't see him becoming the type that'd get angry over some insults.

With his friends there's no hostility, it's all friendly jabs at worst.

I had to start over due to being unable to use my old saves, and when I reached the dinner with Moonsong, I could not go any further. Did I miss something, or is there a way to fix this so you still ask even if you missed it? At least being able to move forward at all would be good. The image shows all my options.

After restarting again, I made sure to do everything in the free roam, and I was able to get the conversations to pass this spot in the game.

I would try rolling back and asking the questions again.

if you know how to unlock the console. you can use the following console commands

shit+o (opens console)
ch2_day3_part4_moonsongquestionsasked = 10 (just in case it’s used elsewhere)
Jump ch2_day3_part5
