Having name and reputation makes it riskier for the artist to accept doing all work first without any payment and thus if anything increase reluctance to accept such arrangement, if they have any brains. Because it makes it easier for person with name and reputation not to pay shit, and simply shrug off claims of cheating the no-name artist out of their money. And it can take years for such abuse to catch up with them, if it does at all.
It is a situation that can occur and EK is not the only one that happened to him. There are always risks in this type of hiring, moment!!, I think I discovered the guy who scammed him, could it be?

When I was building the first iteration of Our Red String I went through several designs, in this case I was trying out different text boxes. I also created some extra outfits for some characters that were never used (but I might use some of them in the future).

Are you interested in seeing more discarded designs and prototypes from the inception of ORS? If so, let me know and I'll make a post for my patrons; at least I get to share something with you while I keep working on Chapter 12.
Hm, that outfit kinda looks like something my older sister would wear in the mid to late 2000's, like Destiny's Child or something.

The better your reputation, the more you have to lose. And if enough tricked artist make a stink about an artist, it will hurt their reputation and other artists will be inclined to not work with Eva. Networking is a thing, artist have blogs etc. to build up a name to suggest integrity.
You'd think so, and meantime Donald Trumps and Elon Musks of this world are laughing all the way to the bank as they routinely dodge paying their subcontractors for the work and services rendered, which doesn't stop new hopefuls from working with them "because they have name and reputation they wouldn't want to risk". Yes, yes, Trump's malpractices did catch up with him... some 20-30 years later.

It's actually good that EK broke the radio silence to let us know what was going on. Even if the news was sad it's still better than nothing. I don't mind playing as Ian and I think most people preferred both MCs rather than Ian solo.

Fake it until you make it and then, just because you can, keep faking it until you kick it.

That's why you pay artists for the work that's done, not upfront. Not sure why EK would pay someone for nothing. First time I hear of that happening in the VN scene. Usually you'd get samples from artists you try out, then commission sets of renders or whatever art you want, and upon delivery you pay. This is weird. Plus she's got the flu, remodeling of her home office...all at once.

One would think that all of these things were enough fuel to justify status updates instead of not posting anything.
Prepayment. This is everywhere with modern payments. Many require prepayment for delivery, for work, for purchases, especially large ones. And AVNs are still a very niche category; you most likely don’t know the people you outsource to and never see them. It's all about trust and promises. Therefore, it is not surprising that the artist could ask for advance payment. It's strange that they just worked together for a while and only now cheated.
In any case, it’s good that Eva released the status “guys, everything was bad, problems as always, but I was able to move forward a little, here’s the background,” rather than continue the silence.

I imagine it was less cheating, and more of a pretty typical case of amateur freelancer who found themselves in over their head with the workload, and overcome with stress decided to just disappear instead of coming clean. "Running away with (advance) money" would be more of a side-effect than the actual intention.

So the artist 'ghost's EK... Supposedly.

Now, there could be some validity here in EK's wording. Perhaps the artist she hired has ghosted them, for what ever reason. Or perhaps the artist is simple working over time to respond, or perhaps having a life moment that has taken them away. We don't know.

Same time though, naturally for me I don't fully believe all the words EK puts out in status updates. Hell, with all the things she says she plans to do and not do only to do the not do and not do her plans, I have some measure of doubt and reluctance on the statement here.

Nah, I want the story to progress. Horny is the consolation prize.
But what the hell  , the sex scenes are very important, they are not a consolation prize, they are the reward for doing things well, they are a fundamental part of the story, don't forget that ORS is a porn game, I guess sex with Robert could be consolation sex, right? :LOL:

Hi guys,

Sorry for the recent lack of status report updates; I've been putting it off since I can't share much yet and I struggle to come up with something that's worth sharing. As always, I've been focusing my attention and effort in developing the new chapter, prioritizing the script.

It's been a bit hard being as productive as I would've liked these past weeks (got hit by the flu, had some remodelations done in my home office, and the artists I was collaborating with decided to ghost me and run away with the money), but I've been getting things back on track...
So, I guess shit happened, eh:confused:? Sadly we don't know the situation between EK and artist so we can't know for sure what happened, maybe they got delayed and EK feeding this "artist ran away" or maybe EK is in writer's block or maybe he did ran away but it raises questions, which platform did she higher him on, how did she handled payments before, etc. A successful dev like EK need to have a reliable source/method to do payments, if not it is EK's fault for not taking correct/preventive measures especially when she is in the industry for many years. You would expect a dev who is knee deep in industry not to blunder like THIS!

I like textbox2 and Lena's dress NEED modifications, not looking good with those boots. Change it to shorts if you wanna go with those boots otherwise it looks like she's wearing stocking over those pants:LOL:.

...At least the backgrounds are ready! I've been working on the art too, and now I can finish off some illustrations with the appropriate backgrounds, while I conduct a new search and tryouts for artist to help me speed up the production...
Only backgrounds are finished but illustrations and scenes are not ready. Plus finding an artist who doesn't scam you and good enough to do your work without being it looking weird or too far from what was in-game before. Good luck finding "The One".

Don't expect update in March. Expect it within from last week of April to 15 May if we are lucky other wise Last week of May or first week of June. Talk about quick updates, not to forget that it is still Ian's part:whistle::coffee:!

You made thread cry, not cool EK, not cool:confused:!

Supposedly. While it is good that EK has atleast reached out, at the same time though it does raise some suspicions. Like I said earlier, the ghosting could be a number of things: Cheated EK (though sounds odd since they worked together for so long), Life Event, Overworked... Any of theses could apply. Or it could be EK's means of throwing a bone to the fans who want 'an update' and she is dealing with more than she bargained for (how hilarious).

This deep in, for someone who has been around the block for a while, you'd think that EK would have things buttoned down and a system in place. Granted there are gonna be things and changes that happen, egos and issues rise, what have you. So for me I'm honestly somewhat skeptical on this front. EK doesn't seem like the person to just hint at throwing someone under a bus just because they might have been ghosted. Now, she could have said that she had some issues with said artist and that matter has been resolved, but instead she purposefully said they ghosted her. It just seems... a bit odd don't you think?

Hi guys,

Sorry for the recent lack of status report updates; I've been putting it off since I can't share much yet and I struggle to come up with something that's worth sharing. As always, I've been focusing my attention and effort in developing the new chapter, prioritizing the script.

It's been a bit hard being as productive as I would've liked these past weeks (got hit by the flu, had some remodelations done in my home office, and the artists I was collaborating with decided to ghost me and run away with the money), but I've been getting things back on track.

At least the backgrounds are ready! I've been working on the art too, and now I can finish off some illustrations with the appropriate backgrounds, while I conduct a new search and tryouts for artist to help me speed up the production.

Aside from that, I can't think of much else to discuss at the moment. I wish I could tell you about this or that scene I finished writing, the challenges it presented, or share some of the images I've been completing, but of course that would spoil things. I will show you something I found while digging through my files though, and that seemed curious enough:

When I was building the first iteration of Our Red String I went through several designs, in this case I was trying out different text boxes. I also created some extra outfits for some characters that were never used (but I might use some of them in the future).

Scammers are a blight everywhere. Hope whoever this fucker is he get blacklisted from working with other developers.
