I have no idea what the point of him is. Even before the date with him, Lena says that she isn't really interested in him. In my playthroughs, Robert always gets the ultimate triple: rejection from Lena, punch from Axel and kicks from Ian.

Ironically, Lena's problems are entirely down to earth: she has trouble finding a job that'd pay sufficiently to let her cover her bills, and she has potentially trouble getting over her asshole ex-boyfriend. That's basically all.

LEna is in constant fights with her roomies, her bosses, her coworkers and a lot of the guys she knew or gets to know through the course of this game, with rather heartless recurrence: Rob coming on to her and then the bouncer and Jeremy doing the same once she starts her barmaid gig, same shit as Seymour at her nude statuesque beauty gig and the token fan service ORS guys thrown at her in the club while she works there - guys that disgusting and outright shit human garbage who treat her like the tool. She still stands to break out of those scenarios should she go against the turbo slut programming that dev seems to bring over from ORS just for her, or simply become consumed with all the little successses a sex working girl used to be a cock sleeve and nothing more would encounter in her life as such.
We can surely play Lena as precisely this picky and moody strong female character like Eon Flux or Natasha Romanov or Atomic Blonde or Furiosa who push the back end of stressful ”no good end in sight” events through grit and holding on to their humanity rather than become the plastic soul-less manequin for everyone coming on to her to abuse of.Sorry, I'm approaching 40 years old. Yeah, age has definitely a lot to do with it. The characters in the game are YAs and they have typical issues people face at this age. 40–50-year-olds who might be playing the game are long past these experiences, generally, and it's as far from their reality as is reading about high schoolers having their first crush.
Your save point might be a bit too late. Try to roll back a few screens (to the start of gathering at the station, e.g.) and then click through scenes again. Or load an earlier save.

Was the Ian that ended up with Lena, ever really interested in Holly that way? He was interested in her as a fellow writer, and may have admired her, and just wanted to be around someone who was already successful, but did he ever really see her, the way he saw Lena? I don't think so. So I don't agree that Lena took him from Holly's grasp. Because the first person he meets in this game is Lena, and if Ian is on her relationship path, from that moment he's totally enraptured by her. And Holly never really gets a look-in, unless you allow it to happen.
