Since the post i was replying to gave me the impression to justify ("In reality we have all...") controversial actions in reality, and how they (don't) impact relationships, i felt compelled to answer. i assumed a considerable gap between his/her/their perception of moral standards and mine.
given the topics here on this website, and how lenient and tolerant we are towards them, made me wondering if this could cause a shift of our perception of morals and general social behaviour in the long run. because humans adapt to social norms by observation of other humans they interact with.

as always it could be a big misunderstanding on my part.

i think it's safe to say that each cheating puts a relationship under stress, causing potential damage. but you don't know the outcome beforehand. it's a bit like driving too fast: it may improve your driving skills and it can be fun, but it endangers yourself, your co-driver and other persons on the road. whereas the other persons on the road would be those who are being cheated on.

i don't know (as in: missing crucial information) how you and your friend and his girlfriend handled the situation, there are a lot of variables which could have played into this specific outcome.
i can only say, that in my social circles this would have been a total dick move, shunned by my other friends and earned you at least a broken nose from the one you cheated on. i saw a schoolmate loosing a whole front row of teeth for making out with another guys girlfriend at a party. so... lucky you, i guess.

The Ian and Cindy situation is definitely messed up. But in the context of this game, that is part of what makes it so exciting. It’s a taboo. Ian/Emma is a similar situation since your friend and roommate is into her. Though not anywhere near the same scale since the friend has no right to restrict 2 single and consenting adults.

Cindy and Wade are clearly not happy with each other and need to break up. The proper thing to do is have Cindy break up with Wade first, and then get with Ian. But knowing that will cost Ian’s friendship with Wade, and maybe others in the group.
