That is one of the strengths of this game, different women have different preferences. Emma is an anal queen. Cindy doesn't like the taste/idea of cum in her mouth. Alison has a breeding kink, and leans into the tit jobs. Louise is desperate for affection and is a natural sub. Minerva is down to be dominated and humiliated, but there's also another thing (haven't found it, but heard of it). Holly is super-sensitive.

I think Lena and Cherry are the natural all-rounders, nothing is off the table, they enjoy the entire gamut. With Ivy we only see her play with women, but she projects she's the baddest slut around. The truth may differ.

At several times its pointed out that Ians superiors are money oriented. Ian flat out says that the third book may be too niche to publish.
More importantly: He can still get the promotion if he picks the three books if his wit is high enough.

I agree, it also felt very random to me at that point. This is notable because the rest of the game works very well, but the choices in the books are not very intuitive.

Books 2,3,4 were fine, with 3 being pretty challenging for a normal audience to grasp its meaning, which in turn was a hard sell for the publisher. Just have high wits, and you'll bag the promotion even if you selected those three books.

I’m honestly surprised that no one has brought up Minevra going full dommy mommy on Ian if you give into her. I thought for sure someone on here would mention it by now.

The third option is not possible on the romantic path? That sucks. Is it available if they just have the affair for the sex and Minerva punishes him?

I think that depends very much on several other factors. In my Seymour/Lena playthrough it becomes quite clear that Seymour is smitten with her rather thoroughly. But as I said, there are other factors cooming in, e.g. shared philosophy. While my Lena is a hottie and has few problems with showing off, she is also a bright, intelligent one. Seymour likes this combination quite much.

Arthur pointed out that Seymour has changed girls throughout his career. Who knows, Lena, with beauty and brains, is the combination that Seymour was looking for throughout his life and might change his perception
