I mean, it's not really railroading when the player does have control over whether Cindy looks for greener pastures, and the main complaint is that it is perhaps not telegraphed in 100% straightforward "she will cheat on you if you pick this option" manner.

Which is a shame. But as is, you can ignore Alison and let Jeremy nab her, but either go after Cherry, or try and help Perry with Cherry. Or go after Alison. But so go mutually exclusive branching stories.
Wasn't it revealed that the reason for Axel/lena breakup is Cherry, for which she gets judged on by the gang and she tries to maintain distance from her side ?
The reason for the breakup was Axel, with Lena and Ivy being hostile towards Cherry. Other relationships don't really change unless you as Ian are pursuing both Lena and Cherry, in which case I think you are forced to stop seeing one of them.
What do you mean it's a shame? I suppose a new player won't know this, but it becomes pretty obvious pretty quickly that there aren't enough interactions between Ian and Cherry for a bond to form. Within the world of the game, it makes perfect sense that they won't make a connection; especially when Ian would likely have hooked up with either Alison or Lena by the next time they meet, which Cherry will know about and then try and avoid ruining another relationship.
So I need to avoid lena path entirely? Well I was trying to get with all of them, but I lost interest in lena as things got on with Cindy, and lena started picking things up with Jeremy

No, not avoid entirely, you can just break up with her when it becomes relevant I think. You can't have Ian "seeing" both of them, but he's free to do things with them until then.

It's a shame there is only one on-ramp for Cherry. It seems like you could easily put one into the exhibition night. Or maybe the night at fortress. But I believe it's only that first night at Shine that opens any further content with her. Which doesn't match the practices of the rest of the game.
