To be honest, i'm not sure if that'd really help, because --i'm trying to be objective here-- i feel that most of the stuff game devs get involved in and may want to talk about are very opaque to people who lack any first-hand experience. It'd probably isolate him even more from anyone not familiar with those subjects.Imagine he would make video games (and for the sake of the argument decent ones). That would make him far more interesting and he had a lot more to talk about.
Ironically, he's already has a hobby that's fairly easy to show off and for other people to connect with, and that's photography. He just lacks social skills to interact with people and share that interest.
