Stan has no redeemable quality. No wits, no hobbies, no charme. You can have physically worthless characters if they compensate it with a lot of personality. Stan doesn't.
"Lena, i'm actually your missing brother Spike. When i failed to pay my debts the bad guys forced me to undergo sissification treatment, but they botched it and i ended up like this."
"No, that's not true! That's impossible!"
"Search your feelings Lena, you know it's true."

Having studied that horrible teaser of Lena and Stan, I think we have the wrong end of the stick

Lena has a massive

I am not a big fan of Stan but I can see reasons why some may like him. He might be just the kind of guy some of us were or even still are, playing adult games and wanking much too often thinking about those naughty girls. So some may identify with him ;). Think about it!

I don't like him but the game shows us a variety of different chars and that might be something we all like about Our Red String. I like Ian, a writer - artist of sorts - and a fighter. I wish him luck trying to tame that wild horse Lena or beeing her cuck.

Great game! Can't wait for the updates..

That's the intended appeal, for sure, but its badly implemented. Stan is on standstill for 11 chapters, then Lena suggests him to work out and encourages him by making with him out. Thats all the development and its as rushed as it is unconvincing.

If he started poorly in chapter 1, but got rejected by Lena right in say chapter 2, then spend the entire game picking himself up, step by step motivating and redeeming himself, it could work. Instead he is a nothing burger for 11 chapters until the incel confession he could've had at the beginning of the game. He has the same low self-esteem as Holly, but Holly makes far quicker and far more often moves on Ian and changes much more fluid and rapidly.

This was much better done with Eric in the first game, who also starts as a whimp, but progresses significantly better paced to the either cuck or chad path, despite not even having much screen presence.

In summary, Stan lacks both quantity and quality in writing. Just being a mirror for the average loser nerd isn't enough, you want that projection of yourself to either succeed (power fantasy) or fail (self-loathing confirmation). Stan isn't managing either of them greatly.

My conspiracy theory is that EK never expected Stan to become popular with the patreons, she actually expected Robert to somehow be a fan favourite.
Maybe im completey wrong about this but theres something about Robert path that makes me think EK had more plans for him and did a 180 later on when she realized no one actually likes him:unsure:

Yup, Robert was a favourite of her's to write, and expected him to be like a Mini-Seymour, but fans never liked it. Stan the Man I guess is a relatable character.

I had the impression Eva loved to write Robert, but merely in a vindictive spiteful way to create the most annoying, pathetic, in-your-face disposable sidepiece. Not someone worth dating in the long run, but more like a Doug stand-in for the early and mid-game to have a replacable sexfriend that can and will get dropped easily without remorse. Eva went out of their way to make him unlikeable, they would've given him some depth or a bigger role in the plot if they wanted him to be likable.

Cautiously optimistic for a Stan update, he's been completely uninteresting so far but I'm curious to see what Lena can shape him into by the end. Happy we're getting anything at all before the new year, really, I didn't expect to.

I definitely agree with Gicoo that Stan's felt like an afterthought, and if he's intended to be a serious love interest he should've played more of a role earlier on and let him build up some redeeming qualities. At the point we're at, Lena has had an army of hot people wanting to date her. Logically it seems pretty much impossible that she'd either skip over or drop every other partner because of her interest in STAN of all people.
