You'd be surprised. I mean, I don't know about physically repulsive but women are attracted to men for plenty of reasons other than physical attractiveness. Money, power, charisma, self-assurance, authority... or a mix of several of them.

That's a bit of a general statement, sometimes we go for bad boys because we expect a specific outcome too. The reason can sometimes be simple, but it depends on the individuals involved just like anything else in life. I happen to lack romantic interest in men so if I - at least back when I was single - ever went for a stereotypical bad boy it was exactly because I expected a certain kind of explicit outcome.
I don't know about mysterious, but at least the attractive and unpredictable parts are correct in my experience. If you want to, ahem, "get dicked down" as you might say, you'd go for someone with a flirtatious attitude towards you, someone who wasn't shy about showing his interest.
I guess because of my homoromantic view of men I never cared to wonder about the mysterious part of a bad boy? To me the endeavour was entirely physical and I guess flirting with bad boys gets easy when all there is to it is sex.
I think the main values that attracted my interest besides the physical aspects was a certain level of boldness and some humor too. A bad boy buying into their own hype is pretty cringeworthy. Using a word like "chad" or "alpha" unironically isn't very arousing imo.
So the whole game of secuction wasn't just about physical aspects either I suppose. Less attractive men caught my attention if they were smart, funny and confident in a laid-back manner. And you can basically find individuals of this kind within all groupings, not just bad boys and the like. But of course someone who looks good and knows it might at least more easily come by the confidence part.

Why would Ian give a cheater a chance?I'm not 100% sure, but from all the talks it seems that it could've been the case of relationship becoming a long-distance one for a while (with Ian in Baluart and Gillian in their home city) with the intention of Gillian eventually coming to Ian, but she's apparently got entangled with the new guy during that time apart. It's unknown if this separation was because Ian didn't want to follow Gillian back or some other scenario. Either way it's possible that was just a typical case of things not surviving a separation and/or vulnerability that comes from the partner not being there for you when needed, than Gillian looking for "more adventures" per se.
(plus, just because Ian wasn't bad in bed doesn't mean the new guy couldn't have been even better.
Yup, physical traits are just the free ticket you get to converse with the girls without creeping them out. After that, it's all about charisma and the other traits you mentioned to carry that relationship. If that said person is all about looks, it gets boring and tiring pretty fast. "I am stupid, but I am handsome!"

Lena and Axel had a toxic relationship. When you love someone you accept them just the way they are. Axel's personality took a toll on Lena and they probably fought a lot while they were together, hence the on-again, off-again relationship.

Lena loved and will love again towards Axel if you are on his path. It's Axel who doesn't care about this relationship. It's all power play for him from the get-go. That's why in a relationship, it's always alarming for a couple to be in touch with their exes; there's always a chance to rekindle that flame.

Axel cares about the relationship very much, as indicated by how he still pursuits Lena. If not, he would just give her up and go for the next hole. Its just a very ruthless and egoistical mindset, in which he is assumed to get everything while Lena has to submit to him entirely.

Eva was planning to include sex scenes with Lena/Ed in earlier chapters, but it was cut out to save time. And at this point in the story, I doubt it'll ever happen, as Ed and the Café arc are long past.
There's a few possible explanations that could be somewhat plausible -- Ian's perspective on cheating or relationships in general could've changed due to recent developments in his life. E.g. maybe he'd recognize that indeed, spending one's whole life having sex with just one person isn't really all that hot, especially now that he's fucked around with many different girls, and so having an open relationship with a partner he's clicked very well in the past --and one he still has romantic feelings for-- would be a very good arrangement to avoid this monotony and the whole "are they cheating on me?" issue.
Ian can also very well be a cheater himself now, which helps to see things from that perspective and potentially grow more understanding.

True. Also, Ian's pretty perspective about cheating. He knew his parents were seeing other people without even telling him, he also knew Lena was cheating on him with Mike in one of his monologues at the beach. No, Jeremy didn't rat out Mike, but Ian caught the wind.
Maybe I'm wrong but to me it's pretty clear that Ian would have forgiven Gillian when it happened. The difference with Lena and Axel is that he didn't have a choice. Gillian didn't just cheat, he left him for the other guy and is still with him as far as we know.
Why Ian or any other person would give a cheater a chance?. It's something that I struggled myself to truly understand, but I probably have trust issues. I have not been able to even get into a relationship with someone who cheated on another guy with me. I can't stop the doubt of "if she did that to the other guy, why wouldn't she do the same to me?" and for me a relationship without complete trust makes no sense. Intelectually I can understand that some people can truly forgive other people mistakes and people can change and not cheat again. Also, some people are really terrified of being alone or too dependant on their partner, so they let them get away with anything.
Hmm, i'm pretty sure that one comes from Jeremy too. It's just not spelt out specifically -- Jeremy has single text variant for any sex Lena had at the club (except for Axel who gets custom phrase about Lena's ex) While that generic variant doesn't delve into specifics, since that'd be extra work, i think we can sort of presume either Jeremy does tell Ian some more details during that talk, or EK simply slipped and didn't remember that Mike wasn't outright named.

I've been on the receiving end when I was pursuing my higher education. Let me tell you, it's not fun at all. Once that trust is broken, it's hard to come to terms with that person. Personally I blocked that person and moved on and never looked back, even if they asked for forgiveness.
Your last line about being terrified to be left alone is the classic gateway to cuckoldry. I've seen and heard stories on how the partner manipulate this conundrum to their liking and take advantage of it. The world's a cruel place.
