I don't know about allying with him, but I wouldn't mind being able to use him to better Lena's options somehow.

So far it's all been either "resist Axel" entirely or "submit to him," there isn't really a mid-ground simply because he's either dominating when Lena gives him and inch, or raging because he's being denied said inch.

I have no real interest in his and Ian's rivalry, from his perspective I just want him to go away.
