I mostly agree with you, and have seen that. A female friend in college was a muy thai competitor. She was tiny, and extremely scary in competition. Very strong for her size, and very precise. She was so tough I wouldn't spar with her, she could wreck me accidentally, because I was very aggressive, and was difficult to predict.
I was a brawler who had some martial arts training back in the day (judo, karate, tai chi, kenpo). I would eat black belts alive, mostly because I was multi-discipline, and they were mostly sport fighters. They could only really fight people fighting their fight or with no skills.
Yeah, a bigger skilled foe will almost always take a smaller skilled foe, but there are exceptions. Extremely skilled or talented fighters break those rules. Some people also are extreme, and crazy people are not predictable, which can give them an edge.
A great boxer will never get touched by a brawler in a straight-up fight, and hit like a motherfucker. Bruce Lee respected boxing more than many martial arts, and studied it.I see, I would love to see how he will deal with a boxer twice his size.

I can bring up a few more examples.
If the bigger man has to punch downward they are going to be off balanced and most of the time a downward punch will equal an open chin. Plus boxers are bad ass because they roll with punches and can stick and move so if a big guy can't grab you or connect anything their size is worthless
I mean yeah probably, but someone who has had no formal training will (probably) struggle to land a hit on someone who knows what they are doing.

Might be, I know nothing about boxing.
But the thing is, we are talking about Ian and Axel, both are regular dudes, not highly trained professionals who dedicated their life to it and do little but train every day.
Ian is a straight-up amateur who is training once or twice a week for like a year on a soft mattress, protective gear and strict rules. Who BTW sits in front of a computer all day. We don't know much about Axel but you don't get buffed like that by being a lazy slob. I guess he is doing some gym work at least?
Ian's skills won't matter when he is on a concrete floor, with no rules or referee and protective gear. Axel is not going to sit idly while Ian tries to grapple him and submit him. He will punch, kick, bite, scratch, poke his eyes out, hit him with a bottle etc.
The notion that some amateur BJJ student is OP in a street fight is a total joke straight out of Hollywood.
That was my original point.

I went with the BJJ option on my run, but wasn't there also a pure Striker option? I think that would not have fared as well against Axel.

I am definitely not a martial arts or any kind of fighting expert, I just know a few things from my personal experience, but trading blows with someone who got bigger reach than you and got biceps in the size of your head is a very punishing experience.

Damn, I know men are coward when they hit women, but to know that some of them are cowards in a fight with other men too since they are incapable of fighting fair and square with other men is just confirming that those bigger guys who don't fight fair are the ones who are violent toward women in general. Unfortunately, I heard from an ex police officer, a woman who said that the majority of men who work in the law force are actual cowards and they're accused of domestic violence(mainly soldiers and cops).

I’m not reading any of that but I’m happy you put a lot of thought into this scenarioAfter the last man match (no matter whose the winner) suddenly Jeremy appear taking advantage of that both Ian and Axel are exhausted and perform a "Ego's Edge" first on the winner and then on the loser which later leads to triple threat match where Cindy ones again come to try help Ian win by distracting Axel and Jeremy or the refferee to not be able to count 1,2,3 so Ian will not lose but even then it happens the match continues even after her distraction,then out of nowhere Lena appears walking slowly to the ring in only some very revealing micro-swimsuit - in the same time Cindy is trying to help Ian catch his breath out of the ring and look first shocked at Lena and then with a disgusting face but keep trying help Ian catch his breath while both Axel and Jeremy are on the ring but waiting to see what Lena is up to - Lena steps on the ring infront of them smiling,at the same time Ian manage to catch his breath and finally comes back to the ring too now all 3 guys looking at Lena - Lena after looking at each one perform a kick to the balls of Ian who drops on the floor,then she walks between Axel and Jeremy moving behind their back and takes a steel chair that was already on the ring and before Axel and Jeremy can turn around she is the one to turn around and hit Axel in the back with the chair letting Jeremy perform his move and pin Axel to win the match,then she comes and whisper to Axel "I'm sorry Axel but he has even much bigger and thick cock then yours,but you can also consider this as my revenge on you for betraying me" then she leaves with Jeremy both smiling at the losers and at Cindy who can't believe what happens and it's pissed which makes her arrange a match between her and Lena - on the match between Lena and Cindy it happens that Lena wins after performing "Kiss by the Rose" to Cindy's face,then Cindy wants a rematch and on the rematch when Cindy is going to win out of nowhere it comes Ivy that distract the refferee and letting Lena win once again,this leads to Cindy asking to go against both but the manager says to her for that she needs to find a partner - the tag-team match both Lena and Ivy are smiling and talking shit to Cindy at the ring like "So whose your mystery partner? Oh I know,it's none because you don't have a friends right?" then Cindy says "I don't need to have a friend to tag against you,I only need a partner who doesn't mind going against you. Oh,here it is" - both Lena and Ivy turn around Ivy making a surprised face while Lena makes a angry and pissed face sayng "what the fuck? are you fucking kidding me" as she watches Cherry comes to the ring to tag with Cindy - Lena to Cherry: "You fucking bitch" and tries to grab her by the hair before the match start which makes the refferee separates them so he can start the match - in the corner of Lena/Ivy "can you believe that,she brings that fucking bitch here,i'm going to end her" "don't worry we are going to make her regret her decision,we are going to end both of them here" - the match starts with Ivy vs Cindy and after a while the match ends with Cherry pinning Lena which makes both Lena and Ivy even more frustrated asking for a rematch in which this time they win and after the end of the match both Lena and Ivy takes a steel chair and Ivy starts hitting Cindy with it while Lena start hitting Cherry with the chair - Ivy knelt down grabbing Cindy by the hair and lifting her head turning her face to Lena keep hitting Chery with the chair "look what you make us do,this is your fault. you dare bring that fucking cunt here?" meanwhile Lena strop hitting Cherry witht the chair only to put the chair around her neck and brings her to one of the corner,then Lena goes to the oposite corner and from there runs to the helpless Cherry and perform a hipp atack on the chair around Cherry's neck - Ivy says to Cindy "next time you better think carefully before trying to come against us or you will follow her faith" and shove Cindy's face to the ring floor before stands up and join Lena now both Ivy and Lena smilling at what they did before leaving the ring
