Ok she is all this and that should make her average and boring?
If you look at my posts of the last couple days, you will see that I never used the word "boring". That is you connecting the trait average with the trait boring all on your own! Maybe because you in your heart of hearts are thinking exactly that about Veronica, but do not want to admit to it?:)
I find Veronica average (yes, average because I could write more about e.g. Andrea or Lucy and they are side characters) and her obnoxiousness makes her simply annoying to me. I had the dubious pleasure to know a person in the mold of her and since that time I am quite allergic to persons exhibiting similar traits.
For that reason my Edwin is content to help her regain her feet since she was backstabbed very much and I dislike such behaviour even more. But after that good riddenace.

You know what? I'm sure you could. I'm sure I could write (presumptuous) things about Veronica or Felicia TD never thought about or intended. I probably did at some point.

Alas, the wealth of subtext (and in some cases outright text) people often derive from their head-canon cannot be accounted towards the merit of actually written text, or else TD would have already picked up his Nobel, Pulitzer and Booker.

Which is a roundabout way of me saying I don't buy the idea of minor side characters with line counts in the two digit range having more depth than a fully realised primary love interest. Pull the other one, it's got bells on.

Dev Diary 99

Hello all, TD here.

Ch4Up6 currently sits at 2,350 static images, 77 animations, and 48,530 words.

Which works out to 124 statics, 17 animations, and 3,570 words since the last dev diary.

A drop off compared to the last dev diary, but not every static or animation is created equal (one of the animations has like 8+ people in it for example). As mentioned last time, GIL is balls deep in a group scene that is the culmination of several character threads unspooled over the free roam. I'd say we're about 70% done with that, currently at the tail end of the first of two endings. That napkin math may seem weird, but they share the same lead in and quite a few animations so I'm hoping by the next report this scene and then some will be behind us. The scene we're working on after will actually be the theoretical terminus for potentially ending the update, but GIL and I both remain ambivalent about what to do. There's quite a bit of content in this update already, enough to justify a release, and giving you guys something would be a boost to our morale. However, we also know completing the full exhibition in a single update will be a more satisfying experience. We might actually do a poll on this, not to definitively let you guys make the choice for us, but to satiate our curiosity on what the silent portion of our supporters would prefer. If we **did** end the update here, our utmost goal would be to get the next half out over 3-4 months.

Anyway, that's for future us. Right now we'll keep to the trenches. As always, thank you so much for your support and enabling us to do what we love doing.

It feels a bit like we're in some sort of Escher-scape where the target never comes closer despite our steady progress - to the point that the last dev diary had the same number as this one! :p Still, we should stick to the cold hard numbers. TD and GIL have been averaging roughly 41 static images, 5.7 animations, and 1190 words per week in the three weeks since the first Dev Diary 98. Overall, that gives them a rate of ~81 statics, 2.7 animations and 1682 words per week since work on chapter 4 Update 6 began. Here are the charts for Week 29:
You don't have permission to view the spoiler content. Log in or register now.
The static image production rate may have tailed off a little this time, but the animation rate increased as well. So I don't think this is a case of our forward momentum slowing, I think this is a case of the target being deceptively far away. The final event of the pre-Exhibition Club scenes, whatever it is, may be simple in concept, but it's obviously got a lot of technical complexity under the hood. I'd say that's a net positive since it does suggest our actions will have a big effect on how things play out, but it does mean we're going to be in the 'final' stages of the first half of the update for a significant period of time - which in turn adds pressure to split the update in two and get something out the door in the semi-timely manner.

For my part I'm still opposed to that. I think the Exhibition day content will work best if we get it all in one sitting rather than trying to divide it between a pre-game warmup and the stage act. I also think there will be a natural tendency for the stage act half to grow in the telling if it's split off, if only to subconsciously avoid it feeling anti-climactic after all the time and effort poured into the first half.

Then again, I suppose there's also the risk the stage act might feel rushed if it's kept as one giga-sized update; if the stage portion of this event really is as massive as the pre-game we'd be looking at something like 16+ month development cycle. That is a lot to ask from the fanbase, particularly those who don't follow the development process closely. I'm not sure there's a simple solution to the dilemma, it really comes down to the details: how much material is there ultimately, how well would the two halves be able to stand on their own if separated, and how comfortable is the community (both dev and player) with long waits. I'd still err on the side of waiting for the most complete product, but I'm very comfortable trusting our devs to make the best call here if they feel a two-part release is warranted. We'll see how it plays out.

If by some case the poll decides to get an update now, I will still wait for the 2nd part even if I'm dying to see Victoria's situation in this new update.

Same, I might be tempted to play it, but I'd probably wait until the entire exhibition day is completed.
I admire your commitment to waiting guys, and I too prefer it to release only when the full exhibition done, but if it's divided I will play it as soon as it is released :sneaky:

Good point. But personally I won't be able to ignore this topic if I decide to wait for the second half of the update, and that means spoilers will be unavoidable Zaebalo-2x.gif

In the spirit of the best waifu Veronica fan club, im in the go big or go home update squad. (y)
I'm okay with whatever the Devs decide, but 3-4 months of more waiting does sounds like a bit long. So I'm in a release quick group, gotta sell my stock when it's high.

Edit: also the free roam and the exhibition isn't really that connected and kinda different, so i think it's not hard to cut it. It's like watching the halftime show without watching the actual nfl match

Oh my word, fetch my fainting couch, I need it right now! (for reference, the quoted full post contains 508 words, just about half of the above "progress"...)

I obviously only speak for myself, but I don´t mind waiting an extra one/two months and get everything at once. Get the exhibition out of the way and move on to other things.

I was also all in for the whole exhibition being one big update, but honestly I highly doubt the rest of the update will only take 2-3 months, considering just the morning and the whole free roam took so long, I feel like the main event will prob take 4+ months, which at that point we might be looking at over 1 year of wait time since the last release, so I'm starting to have mixed feelings on what's the better choice .

Don't get me wrong, I don't mind waiting because I know this game delivers with quality, but there's definitely some upsides for splitting the exhibition in 2.

for 1, having 2 updates is prob better for TD and GiL, as they don't feel as pressured to finish what's left of the exhibition so they can release it. It should also net them a couple more patreons in total, as I'm guessing the number always goes up when there's a new update.

that being said, it being one complete package would definitely be more enjoyable, at the cost of a long wait time.

At this point I'm ok with both options, whatever the devs consider more wise I'll be happy with.
