I have no doubt about that. But how can "gallery unlocker" or "full save" guys question their morality if they don't even play the game but download it just to view the gallery? Dev Diary 90
Hello fine people, TD here.
Currently, Ch4Up6 sits at a total of 457 static images, 18 animations, and 11,571 words.
That comes out to 214 images, 0 animations, and 4,691 words since our last diary two weeks ago.
Pretty good progress all things considering GIL had quite a few technical issues to overcome these last couple of weeks. There was complications with his new graphic card, issues with a faulty water heater triggering his breaker, a friend going through a personal crisis, and HoneySelect being a capricious bitch that caught aids. No, I'm not going to explain that last part. I barely understand it myself.
Anyway, all things that can fuck up your groove creatively, but GIL stands on business. I'm always grateful that he's in charge of the hard part of the project.
Other than that, things got a bit changed around around since the last diary. We finished the two important scenes that I mentioned, but a couple more cropped up before we can properly move into Carnation Club business. These were character points I planned on hitting later in the update, but decided on utilizing earlier to better support Edwin's character in the aftermath of a particular revelation, as well as giving him something to draw on during the madness of exhibition 3.
So with that in mind, right now we're working on quite the nice Hana scene. This is an optional one for HanaGF havers: it starts early, and will be a throughline all the way to the end to the closing moments of the update. Players who have been loyal to Hana (or have been happily two timing her) will finally have something to chew on.
After that, we've got a similarly important Mina scene for those who favors quadtails over twintails, predicated on Edwin making a statement toward her during last update’s rock show. Mina is among the characters who needs advancement the most in my opinion. Hell, GIL considers her my redheaded stepchild, despite my protests that I do adore her.
The thing is: she’s got a lot of variability to juggle, and while last update did a nice enough job positioning her in the variety of ways that I need her, she’s always been lacking in the “girlfriend experience.” She’s the only heroine that didn’t get a major date in week 3, and I feel she’s fallen behind in the pursuit of letting other characters take a stab at her. So look forward to a little course correcting with that, Mina enjoyers.
I will stop my rambling now.

Damn I didn't expect Mina to get so much content during a exhibition update
she usually gets the backburner and the focus is on the club and the Carnations (+some Hana content), so this is a welcome surprise, every girl will get some attention it seems, even long awaited secondary characters like Sophia . The more I hear about this update the more hyped I get, but I'm also mentally preparing for it to take another 8+ months to develop with how much work it seems TD and GiL have to put into it.Keep it up devs o7.

I'm working through this and I have a single though getting to Kathleen inviting a new member for the third exhibition...
She is massively, and potentially stupidly, overplaying her hand in a way that could destroy her. It's been shown that Chuck has reservations about her actions at least minorly, and August wants a successful business... And this could very easily throw both their considerations under the bus and I seriously doubt they'd defend her over themselves, their interests, and their money.
Like showing other patrons she could fuck over any of them for her sadism is not going to play well with them beyond the short term. And... That seriously bugs me. If she's truly a psychopath, she has to know this is potentially very self-destructive. Like I wondered during the photoshoot for the third exhibition where she teased that Samson would be fine with Ronnie being booted out (no he would not)... But this particular "twist" seems to put whatever she is working on with the doctor and his assistant at risk too. Unless she's trying to destroy everyone there, this seems almost idiotic for someone who should be more calculating.

I think she just likes fucking with people and it’s not really part of her “plan.” To me her plan is keeping her current position while increasing her influence while playing all sides. She suspects August is trying to make Hana the heiress of the business. She kind of nudges Edwin to calm Hana down towards the beginning of the game to get them closer.
Through out the game she is manipulating Edwin into accepting his sadisistic side and make him more sympathetic to Kathleen realizing they are more a like then he wanted to admit.
With a close relationship with Edwin she can manipulate him into influencing Hana in regards to Kathleen’s future at the club. The bugs and eaves dropping at Edwin’s house gives her material to use against Hana if she takes over the business. She has info on her mom and potential revenge porn material.
Chuck says he’s not the biggest fan of her yet his actions say otherwise. He’s always at the exhibitions enjoying himself. His ego is too big to see Kathleen as a legit threat so I don’t think he will do anything to Kathleen until it’s too late for him.

It remains to be seen if Kat is acting purely in bad faith or if she has an angle beyond being cruel to Felicia.
There's a detail in the update after that lends additional context to Elias joining the club that might also temper the rug being pulled out from under him.
Edited to add: Also, consider he did get one of August's cards - which doesn't necessarily mean anything considering Kat was the only one meeting him at the club that night. But... who knows! No one ever mentions that detail when this subject comes up, so I wanted to float it out there.

Kat is primarily a sadist. She gets her fix from messing with people's lives, and it's a normal impulse for an addict to keep escalating the dose (so to speak) to keep getting that high. Because same old gets well, old, after a while.
Not to mention people routinely engage in self-destructive behavior, even if they know these behaviors are self-destructive. So long as they perceive the gain to be higher than the risk.

Psychopathy doesn't mean higher practical intelligence, nor is it free from myopia.
People seem to think of Kathleen as some sort of criminal mastermind right out of a Bond flick, but most of what she does is utilize her vast resources against people without any means of defence against her. Less a brilliant strategist, more bully with a relatively big stick.

I suppose both points of view make sense, it just... I dunno, she's kind of killing the story for me at this point.
I get some folks can be sadists, and that is something that can be enjoyed in a consensual environment (see MC and Harper)... but I dunno, I guess the world is full enough of rich assholes causing pain for their own enjoyment that I just gotta tap out of this one here. Might circle back when the game is complete with an unlocker or something to see Hana, Mina, and Ronnie's stuff (especially with so very few games having a woman built like Ronnie... though the boob size to muscle is a little impossible, I can accept it for funsies)...
I dunno, I liked the angles of potentially fucking over Samson when he so clearly worked to fuck over Ronnie. I also like the idea of helping Rose potentially having a better life going forward. But man, Kathy is just, I didn't mind the spider pulling the web strings, though the using her sister's charity for literally its opposite purpose was fucked... but these new angles of her wanting to damage them all, make them hate each other... I dunno, it just feels bleh.

I mean, she has basically admitted to also being a psychopath. She references with the college boyfriend conversation where she mentions never having the right emotional responses, never understanding them, etc. Pyschopathy isn't like just straight evil, it's a lack of emotional and the corresponding morals that come with our emotions that are generally considered "normal". At worst, in neutral terms, it would be viewed as basically self-interested for pleasure/gain (whatever that individual values), but... man, does it feel like she's leaning into the more cliched psychopath you'd see from TV or... hell, from the news lately. Maybe that's just my hangup here, watching some rich assholes tear shit down for their own gain regardless of the pain it causes others is just... man that's just LIFE lately and we're all witness or victims to it, and just... bleh.

Oh, there's also the whole new club member thing... like, if you wanna continue using the club for the exhibitions and having those toys to play with... like, yeah, some of the patrons may not be fussed (though they SHOULD given what may happen with the newest member and how it SHOULD set a precedent that none of them are safe either)... but like, word of that gets around, you may have some folks who think, yeah, the money would be good, but not if she destroys my entire life in the process.
As I argued earlier, the whole subplot of Felicia participating in the exhibition seems to me as very thin and a potential failure for both her and the club.
But apparently the author has some ideas how it might work with Elias.
Let's wait and see.
That's true, but like labmouseblues said, being a psychopath doesn't mean one is some sort of evil genius, that's more of a movie cliche thing. So it's perfectly viable to be one and still do dumb things to satisfy one's urges. And the whole stepping on people is more of her sadistic side -- she isn't tearing into people 'regardless of the pain it causes' but because of the pain it causes, it's what she enjoys.
Incidentally, one of symptoms of psychopathy is also disregard for safety of self, not just others. As such, engaging in potentially self-destructive behavior doesn't really conflict with Kat being a psychopath, the way you thought. If anything, it may be a part of it.
