There was nothing else to do, so I decided to refresh my memory and admire the renders of the transitions. Some of them I haven't seen in the game and I think I'm not the only one, so... enjoy:

Due to the 32 file limit, we'll continue in the next post.
It still amazes me to this day that they managed to make HS1 look this good, can't imagine how heavily modded their version must be.

Quite right! I estimate the various mods accumulated to be 3-4 times larger than HS1 by itself is. But no matter the size, without knowing the key mods among them we will never be able to get comparable fan art.

I hope this update wont take a whole year to be finished... It's kinda sad that a couple of hours content is being made for a year+
That's how it works sadly. For instance months or a couple years to make a 2 or 3 hour movie. Or 5+ years to make a AAA game for 30+ hours of gameplay (not counting grinding). But you don't get drip-fed parts of the movie or the game.

Frankly, it's not sad. It's the price of quality and hard work - especially if it's done in one's spare time. Would I prefer that the game had quicker releases? Of course, like everyone else. But if the consequence is burnout on TD and GIL, or an impact on the game quality, then I disagree. The alternative (same content and quality in less time) is just wishful thinking.

Sorry if I sound abrasive, but this is a pet peeve of mine. I'm a software consultant, and I cannot even remember how many times I've been asked to speed up the release time of my software ("You estimate this feature will take 20 man/days... That's too much, can't we settle for 10 man/days?"), as if it had no consequences on my well-being or the software quality.
Software development, especially when writing and art is involved, is not a souk, where you can haggle for better prices. There is no magical formula, or modern development technique, to speed up a game release for free. Also, adding more people in a process, or splitting a release in multiple chunks, has an intrinsic overhead and cost, that the developers / writers may not want to pay. And good for them.

Compared to other popular HS1/HS2 games, PC clearly shows how two well-coordinated people, each of whom can focus on their element, can easily multiply the final result by 2+ times in the same amount of time and still remain at a high level in terms of quality.

As a person who isn't well-read and doesn't study English, it's difficult for me to notice the difference in writing then and now. It feels like TD started with a high bar right away and easily maintains it (for AVN standards).

But how the quality of renders and animation has improved during the development of the game, this is of course a huge leap, especially considering the last few updates, where more attention has been paid to lighting, I think. And the way GIL brings the characters to life with facial expressions, body language, gestures, a lively background and small details is beyond words, I love it.

I dont think this analogy works since movies and AAA games are developed differently. In visual novel you need to work on renders and text only (and perhaps models and scenes if those were not stock).
I'm not trying to diminish the work of the devs, it's amazing. But for the trending VN on patreon i would assume it must be their main focus, not some side hustle. I'm just trying to comprehend what takes a year to complete an update.

It's not perfect analogy but the point is that creating takes way more time than consuming. And movies and AAA games are not a single or 2-guy team.

Similar comments as yours have been asked in many game threads. Simple and short answer: If someone wants long release updates, the devs will have to work harder and harder, not to mention work on animations.

Don't ask questions that you already know the answers to but don't want to understand. Being a developer and developing games sitting in front of a computer is not an easy task.

Currently, as of 7-8 months of dev time: 2,292 images and 65 animations.

How that compares to other projects, as well as our own historical progress that gets charted with graphs on this forum vs the uptick in perceived quality, is for you to determine.
Any chance Edwin will get some action with the pregnant House girl in the future? asking for a friend :sneaky:
