This game really feels like a bait, and switch.
The intro is great, the characters are well-written, and it makes you feel things (no spoilers). It also sets some expectations. Being a renpy game, even if an ambitious renpy game, it sets expectations about the story, and the lewds.
We start off with MC, his bro, and his childhood friend who's clearly into MC. Life is going to be good, they're going to get into the upper class, and rack up their body count, surrounded by the most beautiful women the nobility have to offer.
Then we're off to war, get ourselves a QT3.14 scout wife, and whether it's her or Adara, still we remain the only dick in town.
We pick up our invasive pals, and wouldn't you know it, we've got to breed! Tough situation, but I'm here for it. Pretty coherent theme, with a pretty clear target audience, so far so straight.
When we get back to town, no matter where we go, it's not the same. Pick up one of the first available quests at the adventurer's guild, rescue the merchants son-he's a trap. All of the mages are futa. The mages were barely implemented last time I played some years back, and the single futa that was there was forgivable because they were written into the world fairly well, I thought. The elf that runs the clothes shop is a tranny, and to keep it that way, even if you do his quest to make him feminine, he retains the dick. It's getting to the point that if I see a character getting some spotlight, especially if they are strong and feminine, I'm guessing it's a futa.
All of this would be fine if, 1: it weren't so contradictory to the theme we had going, and 2: we weren't forced into the content because, as the game tells you, your primary source of exp is unlocking sex scenes, and quests. Grinding exp through combat is not an option, go fuck the tranny elf in the ass if you want to see level 7.
I'm not going to get into the balance of combat, which has gotten what the fuck levels of bad since last time I played, because that can easily be fixed. The direction the content has been taken though...I think if the audience is everyone, the audience is no one. A good compromise would be not forcing players to unlock scenes they're not interested in, just in order to get enough exp.
I took the time to write this because initially this game was set up to be one of the big titles, one of the memorable ones that hang around in places like this. It stood out through its quality, and storytelling among a pile of far inferior renpy titles. It's unfortunate that after slogging through another playthrough, not even as far as I got last time, it clearly became unworth the time.
