Keeping the sugarcube common knowledge though:
If you right click inspect element, then go to console, you can basically cheat all the values in the game.
Here's some that will probably be most helpful.

SugarCube.State.variables.chemicals = 300
SugarCube.State.variables.i.Food.count = 100
SugarCube.State.variables.i.Water.count = 100
SugarCube.State.variables.i.Medkit.count = 100

You can pretty much edit every amount value in the inventory like this just use the SugarCube.State.variables.i.<ITEM_NAME>.count = 100 syntax and boom enjoy.

This is true for pretty much all HTML / SugarCube games. Though different games will use different variable names. So explore and enjoy this bit of javascript knowledge!

I could create events where a subject temporarily gains bonuses or penalties depending on the stimulus.

Yes, and it also creates moral tension. The player knows they’re controlling human subjects in an experiment, not just generic survivors. If a test harms them badly, it makes the player think: Do I follow the scientists’ orders, or protect the girls?

I like games that make players question their own decisions. Adding branching consequences based on following or resisting the experiment could give the story more weight.

Maybe disobeying the scientists could lead to long-term consequences, like receiving fewer supplies, or the scientists increasing the difficulty of the tests. On the flip side, cooperating could give short-term rewards, but at the cost of harming the subjects more.

That’s a very elegant structure - immediate benefit versus long-term survival.
