Which is a really fascinating decision when the similar but subtly different baker across the street(that is also much larger and more successful) is expanding into exactly the same market they've cornered.

If I recall correctly, in some areas, Patreon has even said that they were going to be a platform for unbridled creativity. Patreon could have made the decision to remain as a spotlight on artistic freedom. But, it seems they have firmly decided to move towards more investments and better profit margins. As a result of that decision and their interactions with financial entities and corporate investors, it now looks like that they are restricting certain content from being allowed the site.
At first glance, my earlier post could be taken as being off-topic. Nope. It's not. Remember my analogy about the baker? Patreon is the baker. They have literally cornered the the market in subscription-based crowdfunding. For the last year, they have decided to cater to their investors and the payment handlers. That decision is what is causing the headaches for many developers of adult games. Patreon wasn't forced into this. They made that choice on their own. If they really cared for "artistic freedom", they could have leveraged their market share into more lenient terms with payment handlers. Or even done direct card to bank transfers like they had before.
The point is that both the developer and patreon are at fault for this. The developer decided to make adult content with incest and/or other fetishes, knowing it is considered taboo. Patreon could have been more clear with its policies and/or enforcement in the very beginning but they were lax because they wanted the funds. They could have also remained firm in their previous stance.. BUT... Now that they have a sustainable business, those developers really don't matter anymore. They can leave.
Patreon went from being the baker who helps the community thrive to the baker who now hoards all the resources and is willing to screw over a minority for the sake of continued investments and much greater cash flow.
The problem with your argument though, is that in any system like that, at some point someone will find a way to undercut that baker, or do things better. It will just take a while. Sure that baker has the local wheat market cornered, but that being the case, there is wheat from other markets that depending on a bunch of factors can be shipped in say, for cheaper.

I think Patreon is making a stupid decision, but it is one that they are safe making. The thing is, no one wants to stand up for porn. Especially the skeezy stuff we have here, and beyond that, Patreon was NEVER supposed to be a place for porn to exist in the first place. There is an interview from last year where Dave Rubin interviewed Jack Conte after a fairly high profile banning of some political commentators. In that interview, several times, Conte mentions that porn is not allowed, and it is not what Patreon is for. I think the problem was, they just didn't know about it. On the highest levels. Once I saw that interview, I knew that this apocalypse was coming, and while I hope I'm wrong, I don't think this is going to end with just the games like BB and DmD, eventually they are going to want to purge a lot more porn. This I fear, is only the beginning.

It does leave an opening in the market though. If I had an in with PornHub, I would do my damnedest to get them to open up their own crowdfunding platform ala Patreon, for amateur creators, for game makers, for camwhores, for whatever. They would make some serious bank. But if they don't someone will fill the void. Porn is big money.

I agree with the Pornhub idea. It just might work and Pornhub is LOADED to bear. They could easily snatch that 20% from patreon and offer more options to developers. The question is.. how are the fetishes going to be handled from the outset?

The Link below is to a petition to @patreon and @jackconte to change the guidelines to state that Fictional and Fantasy creations are unaffected by the new guidelines put in place by Patreon, if we do not fight for this then we will lose our freedom as creators and our freedom of choice as Adults and supporters for the content outlined in the new guidelines.

So please lend your support and sign the petition, also plase share this with whoever you can, we must not stand for censorship of things that made Patreon for the Creators and not for the Investors.

Thank you
Alas, laws concerning free speech and/or creative expression don't stop companies like Patreon from making rules to filter content and/or stop products from being on their site... Patreon never thought that adult/erotic material would become so popular through their system... It was originally intended to make money by offering a different kind of crowd funding option for artists/authors/developers of non-adult and non-erotic things (go take a look at their main page, nothing adult/erotic listed there at all)... I'm surprised they haven't done what they are doing now, sooner than this... And you can't blame them, because it is a purely business move to avoid possible problems down the road from their mainstream customers and so on... They would rather kick away a small section of customers, then deal with the loss of more customers down the road who may go somewhere else, because of the kind of content supported on the Patreon website that may be considered offensive or beyond offensive...

You can't blame them for this move... It could be worse, and they could just disallow all porn type things from their site all together... By pushing the matter, it could just backfire... But most likely it will make no difference... And that isn't me being pessimistic, it's business reality...

And how is one companies website gonna make you lose your freedom as creators or ability to support creators... There are dozens of other companies out there for crowd funding... Even just making your own URL with a payments system would work... Crying about one companies policies over something so trivial isn't gonna do anything in the long run, when you have a ton of other options...

A quick search says, incest will be ok, though most of the incest on their site is step, there are quite a few videos that don't make that claim. That said, rape doesn't exist on their site, and I didn't even search for bestiality because I knew that it wouldn't. So, if they simply use their current guidelines, rape and bestiality would still need their own platform. I think that's kinda sad, because even if they aren't my kink, I can support the argument that simulated cartoon violence against people and animals isn't unethical, and I can think of a few games I'm interested in that have used these themes in some capacity, even if they aren't the main theme.

I did a quick google, and their payment processor, Probiller, didn't have any easily available documentation on any restrictions to their service. I did note that they seem to be based in Cyprus and do recognize that they are used for porn.

You know,at one point someone is going to make a nsfw patreon type site and wont care about bad press. Just like pornhub dosent care about bad press because its still publicity for them. And suddenly patreon will start crying and changing policies.

ive seen big youtubers leaving patreon for another platform and then getting back responses from patreon asking them to return. Whats the current patreon status for nsfw games anyone knows?

You revived an almost 2 year old thread. And no one have created such a platform meanwhile. I don't see it happen anytime soon tbh. Create a platform should be easy enough, bring aboard a payment processor that would work with it, is another tale.

Also, the example of Youtubers on Patreon a bit bad because you will actually find more youtubers flocking to patreon to make up for viewer suppression and demonetizing issues. The youtubers I know about that been kicked off Patreon been mostly found in the "right wing" category, viewpoints and talking heads that break away from all the "sjw normies".. I know some large youtubers did quit Patreon in support of "Carl Benjamin (Sargon of Akkad), and that Patreon later did approach few of these about come back to the platform. From an outside view of things that just a dick move, but form their business point of view, I suppose if they see a creator that have a million followers/subs whatever. That just all about business.

Just as you have people "snitching" on creators of adult games to Patreon about their game content. You have people snitching on youtubers to patreon about their content. Talking points you don't like? Snitch.. Game content you don't like, or creator you don't like? Snitch. Heck, you see this culture on this site too. "Report this and that", because reasons. What happened to just ignore shit or people you don't like? People take wrecking balls to anything they don't like and soon they will find their own shit in a heap of rubble alongside it because.. .there was people that didn't like their shit as well.

It's kinda funny make a quote from an almost 30 year old movie, but damn it hold almost true thinking about the future today; "I've seen the future, you know what it is? It's a 47-year-old virgin sittin' around in his beige pajamas, drinking a banana-broccoli shake singing "I'm an Oscar-Meyer Wiener" (Demolition Man, 1993)

Doubt the likes of Patreon have the time or resources to monitor every creator and what they do that is not on the site itself. Many use Patreon just as a wallet of sort after all. People being kicked off platforms, or out of groups due to not be found appealing enough or edible anymore did happen long time before the time of patreon, youtube and the internet itself.

In regard of Pornhub.... Last year Paypal did shut off payment processing for over 100000 adult performers on the site. Paypal have this crusade like stance vs porn and adult material. Being such a big actor paypal got quite the sway in regard of like Patreon. If some public backlash of Patreon allows certain adult content on their site, they could get in a jam with Paypal. Many of us use paypal to support creators because its easy and Patreon have no interest in lose that payment processor as it would be bad for their business.
