I vehemently disagree, for how bad it CAN BE... one thing it is, is helpful to us non-JP speaking folks who want to enjoy hentai games too. Yes many times the machine doesnt do a great job, but at least you get whats happening in a far more concise way than a non-MTL/JP-speaking game where you dont get it and have to hold google translate to the game.....

So..... yeah... the good outweighs the bad.

Bans are generally the easiest and also laziest way to "solve" a problem. We need less bans in the world and more constructive solutions that cater to as big a demographic as possible. Rather then trying to ban MTL, come up with solutions to find common ground where everyone is happy with the outcome.

Banning MTL would satisfy a small group of people and ultimately isolate another along with creating a whole slew of other issues which would be annoying for the site staff to have to deal with. Banning MTLs from F95zone is not going to suddenly result in them ceasing to exist either; people will still make them, they will just post them elsewhere, they will still be circulated elsewhere and have an impact on the Adult Game ecosystem.

People will still complain their favorite game was "butchered" and then argue that MTLs kill real translations. (Which in some cases is true, but that is really up to the person doing the translation) The only thing that really changes is a minority of users will no longer get their precious feelings hurt when they open a thread and see MTL in the OP, might sound mean and I know someone is going to take offense to me saying that but, from reading through a lot of threads it seems to be said a lot that many people get disappointed or mad that the upload was an machine translation.

When the new site layout is done and options to filter out tags exists a lot of the problems people complain about will be fixed. You will be able to filter the tags you don't like and all will be good. But even then I guarantee a good number of people will still go into threads and complain because we are human and we can't help ourselves :p

Besides, if they ban MTLs what will I do with my weekends, if not fix broke ass MTLs (had to clarify since some people think it's cool to try and attack people because they think they make mtls lul) I would no longer have bug filled games to fix, and that would be a damned shame!

Good lord, I can't even imagine. At least when I waste away my weekends it means people get food. I can't imagine hating myself so much that I wanted to spend my weekends fixing a problem that not only could one solve, but literally anyone could solve even better just by acquiring basic computer skills.

:ROFLMAO: You do realize I meant bugfixing right? I don't make MTLs, I fix them friend. But you're right it isn't hard to fix bugs even the developer can't or rewriting an entire system for battle animation in a H-RPG because the developer was too lazy. I would love to see what you can do with your basic computer skills :)

Here one solution that could work. Instead of a ban why not have an option to request translations by people who know how to English manual translation (EML) or edit MTL Japanese RPG games or Japanese Visual Novels.

How about MTLing Japanese games in real-time, a damn sight better than what you can do. I wasn't bragging, bro, was just stating how it is. Maybe you should stop wasting your time? No skin off my teeth, though.

Maybe you should stop trying trying to start arguments on a porn forum because you're butthurt over what other people do with their time. but like you said, no skin off my nose. I'm pretty sure you still think I make MTLs but whatever I could care less that you can't or won't read. Doesn't matter at the end of the day.

Nice troll attempt though. have a good day. :)

I think all that's needed is for MTL to be a prefix tag like renpy, java, completed, etc.

Maybe a broken english tag in the post itself would be helpful, but I think the first option would satisfy most that aren't looking to complain.

Really the take away, I guess. We both know the F95 staff views MTL as too valuable a tool to get ad-revenue to do anything about it. All i can really hope for is that people see my posts and discover that they can easily mtl for themselves, AND that shoddy mtls are not only unnecessary, but actively damaging (and just BEGGING for a bitcoin miner)

Any MTL is not justifiable anymore. There are programs like Sugoi and Visual novel OCR that can translate pretty much anything from japanese to english using DeepL. I don't know about banning it, but making it very clear to see and help us filter it to oblivion may help.

The problem with that is that games posted here must be in English and you need the original Japanese version for those tools. Maybe you can find them in the translation request section but otherwise you won't get them here. If you want to use those tools instead of MTL, go ahead. That's no reason to take MTL away from the rest of us. Anyone who is anti-MTL should just ignore those games and move on with their lives.

But usually, MTL is the best way to get the game out there and potentially find an interested translator, so I don't agree with this.

MTL is pretty good if you use right tools. You don't even need to wait ENG release anymore if you can deal with some minor issues.

Here's a direct random MTL.

潜入任務を言い渡された
 ふたなりくノ一。

 潜入に成功するが
 とある人物と遭遇することになる。

 最悪の事態を避けるため戦闘を試みるも、
 格上の相手ゆえに、敗れ拘束されてしまう。

 拘束されたふたなりくノ一は、
 尋問という名の快楽を
 その身に刻み込まれていくのであった。

 繰り返される絶頂に抗い続ける
 ふたなりくノ一の運命は如何に・・・。

When did it start? I became friends with my boss's wife... My boss lives in my neighborhood.
Perhaps because of this, I often see Shiori, my boss's wife, who is two years older than me, every morning.
Shiori is a beautiful woman with big tits, and to be honest, she's such a nice person that it's a shame she's my boss's wife.
Naturally, I also wanked off to her at night, and I felt guilty every day. Then, one day, a poster caught my eye.

Omusubi Ryokan.

Apparently, they were holding some kind of marriage activity event. I decide to go there to break my feelings for Shiori.
But for some reason, I find Shiori at the inn - and the inn is a "must-have" inn where men and women must have sex once they enter...

No. Some of us enjoy poetry.

Fr tho, I feel like MTL is maybe a bit over-hated. I understand if you can't get into it especially in a text-based game, but personally it's usually at least somewhat understandable. For people like me who don't mind MTL it just means the stuff we want translated gets translated faster. By banning MTL you'd be fucking over the ppl who don't have a problem with it and making us wait months for manual translations even though we could already process the situation with MTL.

Not only faster, but there's plenty that would never be translated at all without MTL because it's so much work.

Creating a [JAP] tag would fix the issue. Again, I am not for banning things, this forum already bans content enough for arbitrary reasons. Just help everyone be happy and present all possible solutions. It is quite clear that most MTL out there is not edited, and any unedited MTL loses to doing it yourself with the tools I mentioned. More freedom and more options are always the answer. Many people take on non edited MTL and can't understand one sentence. DeepL is constantly improving, so any hard translations will be inferior and obsolete in a matter of months.
But usually, MTL is the best way to get the game out there and potentially find an interested translator, so I don't agree with this.
I don't know about RPGs but many visual novels are ignored by translation teams because there are already MTL releases... Translators already know the language, so they know about new games and interesting releases before someone randomly finds them on the internet and MTL.

Sure but as i said translation is a lot of work, more than what most people appreciate. There's far more demand for translated work than there are translators providing the service (who often do it for free). If you want them to fix or redo an MTL, that's time away from working on something else. There's always a tradeoff and unless people are paying for the games or translators, we have no right to complain. There's always another option where more people volunteer their time to help edit and fix MTL's.

Not so sure about your claim that translators know about new games before others. That might be true if F95 is the only place you visit to discover new games. I've found plenty of games before they ever reached F95 and many that never do.
