I gotta say that's a really pedantic argument
Yes, I will without hesitation and without remorse admit I am a pedantic piece of shit, I am aware of this
you could hand-wave any such issue by saying the moves are learned via breeding or move tutors or whatever feature that hasn't been implemented yet.
they're not though I just said that
and yes I get what you're trying to say but still
Don't like it? tough luck. You want to whine about 'unfair'? Guess what else is unfair. Only you as the player have access to waifumons with unique abilities and pumped-up stats. Your opponents don't.
So following the rules of the game set by ME, I'd say we're keeping with the rules. Everyone is 'unfair'. Consistent aint it?
You know what? Yes, you're right. That is unfair as well, and I'll admit that point to you. I'm not happy about it, and personally it seems like a bad design philosophy to me, but it's ultimately your decision as the dev.
The whole point of providing opponents an 'illegal moveset' is to shake things up and keep players on their toes. If I kept everything the same as the Mainstream games, there would be no surprise, and nothing to keep players wary. Complain all you like, you're simply not the target demographic if you're this picky over a conscious decision to change the game up to encourage players to not underestimate their opponents or rely on their base knowledge alone to win.
This though, I take issue with. My opinion, probably shared by others, is that breaking rules that have been set for however long (rules that are in the foundation of this game as well) is a bad way to "shake things up and keep players on their toes". You could do that just as well, maybe even better, WITHOUT giving mons illegal moves. From what I've heard you're already having trainers use competitive meta setups (including stall builds which are just objectively unfun to fight but that's besides the point) which is a departure from mainline games in itself. Hell, if you want to keep them so bad, you could just give some kind of lore explanation in the game or whatever like that other guy suggested.
you're simply not the target demographic
I've known of that fact ever since I first saw this game and said "Man, I don't know shit about playing pokemon." then decided to play it anyways. Besides, I'd say just dismissing people as "simply not the target demographic" and ignoring what they say is... not exactly a bad move sometimes, but definitely not a good one either. Obviously, you have your own vision, but sometimes taking in the opinions of those you aren't making it for
can be good for you. Depends on who they are and why they're asking, but I'm sure you know enough to make that decision.
And, on another note, I
understand why it is you come off as so abrasive (I've been lurking in the thread for a bit and I have seen the constant complaints about difficulty, I know I'd be just as angry if not more so), but I can't exactly
condone it solely for... well, you want people to play your game, but this could lead to a bad first impression and turn people away or result in alienation of your potential player base. I'm not saying this is a definite, mind you, but still... just, exercise caution, I guess.
Anyways, this may or may not be my last post on the subject as it kind of feels like beating a dead horse now, but... eh, whatever. I'll likely go back to simply lurking after this.
Respond, don't respond, either works, but I think I've made my stance clear enough that I can feel alright with leaving it.
