It's a form of entertainment. No, I don't imagine myself as the MC.
Well said.
I'm like you. I don't "pretend" I'm the main character in a movie, book, or comic - or even most games. Why would I imagine myself as the MC in a porn game?
Same here, in my case I roleplay as the character presented to me, behave the way I think he would behave.
That's how I approach it. I love role-playing.
I don't think "How would 'I' approach this situation?"
I think "How would THIS PERSON approach this situation?"
It's a fun exercise, and if anything, lets me do and try stuff I never would in real life.
Even if a game allows a lot of customization, I do my best to make a unique character and roleplay that character appropriately. I don't recreate my real life self.
I'm not sure if it's because the authors are/were like this, or if it's because they believe that youngsters act that way, but below 25yo MC tend to be dumb as fuck. And passing half the game facepalming because the MC is could understand that a girl want to fuck even if she was screaming that it's what she want, or wouldn't be able to find a tree in the middle of a desert, isn't really a turn on.
More mature MC are generally way more interesting, because less dumb and more balanced. Perhaps because the authors themselves tend to me older.
Well, as I get older, I do look at 18-20 years, and yeah, even 20-somethings, as being pretty idiotic.
And I see that shit all the time - every week I see this 19 year old guy, who gets flirted with by this 18 year old girl, and both of them obviously like each other, but they are both too stupid / shy / dumb to make a move. Every week I think to myself, "This girl couldn't be any more obvious about this than if she was wearing a 'I desperately want YOU [insert stupid boy's name here]!" And the boy is like, "I wish I could ask her out, but I'm afraid she'll say no." And I'm like, "Do it. Ask her. She won't say no. She is flirting with you in every single interaction she has with you." And he's like, "No, I don't think so. I wish that was the case though. I don't think she's into me."
And I just throw my hands up, mutter something about stupid kids, and move on, only to watch it unfold the next week. Young people are just supremely frustrating to watch. You see them making all the same dumb mistakes you and your generation did, and try to give them advice on how to avoid this brick wall they are dashing towards, but they never learn until they smash their face into the easily avoidable problem.
As they say, "Youth is wasted on the young."
