Why is the Popular games subforum being ceased?

No offence to the hundreds of other games but I thought the purpose of the subforum was to either show new people the most popular games on the market or show the most developed ones. Trawling through the hundreds of games in the normal subforum tab is tedious because so many of them are genuinely poor or barely anywhere through the development process.

The tags aren't helpful either because you have to dig through so many misplaced, vague or simply poor games that I remember just giving up after 5-6 pages because tabbing everything and being disappointed with 75% of them is laborious af. This forum has 176 pages of games and 1300 threads tagged VN. Several [Completed] games have one tenth of the content of [Abandoned] Big Brother (love it or hate it) ... almost 50 pages of 3DCG games...

Like come on. Bad decision. If anything it should be expanded to some kind of OP like threshold or subjective opinion on the game's development stage / content / visual or novel merit.

The prefix "Completed" is what you are looking for, not tags.

I agree though, having it expanded or even renamed would have been better.

It was about keeping the highest traffic thread outside of the main forum and not have them soft locked in the first page because they are constantly posted. The problem was that some people (like you) confuse that with thinking those are the best games or most recommended, which they are not (and IMO all trash).

Featured Games does a better job at recommending good games to people, and the Suggestions forum is always open for discussion.

I think it's a little odd that they started disassembling the forum before announcing that it'd go away. I mean, isn't that the kind of thing that should get a post in "site news & announcements"? I mean, the site owners can do whatever they want with their site, and I really didn't use or care about that forum, so I don't have a problem with it being done.

My understanding is that "featured games" is more of a "staff picks" section. It's still not useful to me, personally, but someone probably benefits from it somewhere. We have an enormous spread of tastes on this forum, which is probably true of any porn site with a topic as general as "adult games." I mean, there're certainly more fans of VNs here than other types of game, but there's still a lot of different kinds of fringe folks, even even there aren't many of each. It's a consequence of having a large user base, I guess.

I always saw the popular games as a "Start with" type of thing, like if someone asks "Which game should I play to begin my fapping adventure?" one could simply link them to the popular games.

Using "Completed" prefix is similar and more complete, however, they are popular games for a reason so there is a higher chance that someone looking to play their first games would like them.

Aside from sorting the "Completed" prefix, there is also the option of sorting by views and ratings. If the Popular Games section is being discontinued, which it is, then I think this is a good chance to encourage our community to use the rating system that has long been in the forum. A more apparent sort by button would probably help out, too. For those who may be unaware, to the bottom right of the "Filter by prefixes:," there is a small "Filters" box with easy search/sort functions.

Maybe those people that were crying that only the "good" games were in the popular category made enough noise that the mods decided to get rid of it ? Sucks, as those games deserved to be there for the most part... I remember when I first joined and how different the top 10 were to what they are now... for one Man of the House and Milfy City have joined the ranks, and the abandoned Teacher's Pet finally got kicked down a notch.

I agree...teachers pet did not deserve to be there after it recieved the abandoned tag. But it was still a nice option to have for the more popular titles. Games that should be there aren't. Its still not a big deal since you can still search for the games or bookmark them.

I have to disagree with this completely, some of those games earned the right to be there, even "permanently" as far as I am concerned as they are icons of the genre...

Thats like saying the OT of Star Wars should now be shunned because the Millennials prefer to watch stuff like "Moonlight" and Roma...

Big Brother despite being abandoned should always be there, same with Dating my Daughter... Teacher's Pet rightfully got kicked out of the top 10, if its still in the top 20, but who cares... after the top 10 I stop caring.... if it were up to people and their hype BADIK would be in the top 10 already despite being a measly 0.1... That's unacceptable ! Let it earn its place there once it actually has content at 0.4 or above !!

I mean Acting Lessons deserved to be on that list at 0.4 after all, than it took a nose dive, but it remained in the popular list despite what it "did".

If you truly want some games to get exposure than "unless" the games in the top banner buy advertisement from this site, that should be a rotating roster... like "games of the week" where you see the most liked/downloaded games of that week or previous week cycling through.

Bad News. Popular Games section has been deleted. All threads are moved towards here, General Discussion. See for yourself. Discussion threads ,fan-arts, etc.

Not at all happy if the Popular Games forum has been permanently nuked. That was a really helpful feature, as the games I followed most closely (with a couple exceptions) were all in there, with dedicated sub-threads for walkthroughs, saves, fan art, etc. It was massively convenient to have that all organized. You look at games like Summertime Saga and Son Of A Bitch! and they each had a dozen or more sub-threads. (SOB actually wrapped around to a second page of subs, thanks to the character-specific walkthroughs and the sheer volume of fuckables in the game.)

Bummed if it's gone.

They discontinued the popular games section but unsure as to why it was nuked. No reason was given but all of the mods for each of the games were moved to the mods section and guides are all on general discussions here but have the archive tag at least. Not sure if they plan on making it easier to search for the guides but have a feeling that they want other games to have an equal chance of viewership rather than people just funneling into the popular ones. I mean people were still asking for updates on Big Brother and it was abandoned a long time ago.

The featured games scroll is the replacement for Popular Games(and yes, games are getting changed out soon)

Site kind of outgrew Popular Games as it was, and half the games in it were either finished or didn't hold up to current games quality wise, so we thought it was best to try something different.
