Yes with the lone wolf trait(unlocked by beating the game without ever entering a portal with a party member(recruiting is fine but you must start solo every portal run.) you can start without party members and lose the ability to recruit. Or you could just fire the starters right away if they bother you that much.
You should be careful downloading from newish accounts,with the recent attacks going on you should be wary of even trusted uploaders. But in their case they probably deleted code they shouldn't or you might be running the wrong game version. Regardless that file is pointless, as you can unlock the gallery with the code, (glimpse) ingame. Obviously without parentheses but I gotta idiot proof everything I say. But if you want all the species unlocked then you can use this though this will unlock mostly everything. But it's not hard to collect the hybrid species you want for a newgame by just running freeplay and dicking around for a few days, getting to level 10 might take you a bit but with the ability to cheat freely here you won't have issues with that.
