Is there any ETA for the next update?![]()
He has actually posted, to patreon, that the next public release SHOULD be July 13th, and then he will swap back to CD again. From what I understand, the updates are like this: View attachment 5000986
Ah, then clearly I have misunderstood. He has actually posted, to patreon, that the next public release SHOULD be July 13th, and then he will swap back to CD again.
No, in a perfect world you would be right.Ah, then clearly I have misunderstood.
It's a shame CD gets 80% of attention, PoW is a better game.He has actually posted, to patreon, that the next public release SHOULD be July 13th, and then he will swap back to CD again.
Why do you think so?It's a shame CD gets 80% of attention, PoW is a better game.
I don't want to hate on CD, just say I think PoW is better. I think CD lacks structure and isn't really "about" anything, just using arbitrary magic abilities in random situations. I also much prefer the PoW giving a range of options that can be done in any order, or ignored. Come to think I wish more HTML games were like this, most are either linear CYOA or have some kind of awful grind. Why do you think so?
I agree with this, unfortunately, that ability to choose what you do makes PoW much harder to update. The more open it is what choices you have made, the either more versions of things you have to program in, or the more generic you have to make future stuff, in case someone has not done one of the previous things. That is also why a lot of the open HTML games have those big grinds for stats. Its an effort to make sure everyone has seen everything prior to the next event by the time they have the stuff to activate it.I don't want to hate on CD, just say I think PoW is better. See if I had to argue I'd say (so far) College Daze is better because of this precise reason as well - I like being just a little bit more on rails than Power of Will currently provides. I know there's a plot happening and we're moving forward day by day, but College Daze's early (and late) days feel far more structured.I don't want to hate on CD, just say I think PoW is better. In a perfect world, the game would be released immediately as a complete game. No, in a perfect world you would be right.
to be fair college daze has more branching paths and is telling a larger scale story, pow will also get to that point where i assume you start conquest of the world but for now it's just focusing on the homefrontI don't want to hate on CD, just say I think PoW is better. Yeah, in the next release there will be more interactions with international characters as we build towards a more involved story.to be fair college daze has more branching paths and is telling a larger scale story, pow will also get to that point where i assume you start conquest of the world but for now it's just focusing on the homefront
Is this only for PoW? I imagine CD is either too close to completion or too large to be given the same treatment. Personally I've never suffered from lag, but I also have no problem with Renpy.Yeah, in the next release there will be more interactions with international characters as we build towards a more involved story.
Speaking of which, there'll be a public release tomorrow but then I'll probably need another week to get a part two of it out with a couple of new characters (Angela White and Asa Akira).
Long term though, this will likely be one of the last versions of this game in twine. I know that my games have been lagging a lot for people on sites like Mopoga, and I've had my own issues on my computer with trying to run twine 1.4 (which is the version I've used for all of my stuff). As a result, I'll be making the transition over to ren'py.
I don't plan on changing the visual format or anything, so it shouldn't matter too much for the play experience beyond (unfortunately) having to redo your saves. But again, this is long-term, and will not affect the upcoming release that'll still be html.
Yeah, CD is going to continue getting html builds unless it starts having even more problems. Long-term, I do want to make a renpy version of it as well, but that'd be with AI art for a Steam release after it's fully finished. Is this only for PoW? Although be warned, a Renpy release will have a lot of people demand a gallery mod even if it's impractical with the amount of variables certain scenes call for. Don't let them get to you if that's not what you want to make, I know I have faith in you.
Btw, will I get problems later on if I use the checkpoint system too much? I know it can be a problem for CD, but it's a mod compared to an official feature in PoW.Yeah, in the next release there will be more interactions with international characters as we build towards a more involved story.

To my knowledge, I haven't written anything with dead ends here like I did in CD before that mod existed. That said, if you do a bunch of insane timeline hopping and create inconsistencies, I'm not going to spend a ton of time trying to fix them as opposed to bugs that you stumble across during a normal adventure.Btw, will I get problems later on if I use the checkpoint system too much? That’s an interesting choice! I was surprised to hear you're moving to Ren'Py instead of Twine 2. From what I understand, the lag players are experiencing is probably more to do with how Twine 1 generates the HTML, not with Twine or SugarCube itself.Yeah, in the next release there will be more interactions with international characters as we build towards a more involved story.

If I wanted to, I could completely recreate the look of it in renpy, but I'm not sure if I'll do exactly that with the visual presentation possibilities it presents. I might use one of the Discord games as an experiment first to get people's thoughts on it. For instance, in CD instead of having a long list of afternoon events to visit, I might just let the player actually click on Jane's face in the room to do a scene with her, or literally go upstairs to visit Rio and Sofia, that kind of thing. Maybe a sidebar with all of the text options too for people that prefer the old school method. That’s an interesting choice! I was surprised to hear you're moving to Ren'Py instead of Twine 2. Twine 2 still supports SugarCube and has a cleaner, more modern structure — it might fix the performance issues without needing to change engines or rewrite anything.
I’m also a bit curious how the long-form style of CD/PoW will translate in Ren'Py. It seems more geared toward short dialogue and visual novel pacing, so I imagine you’ll have to adjust the presentation a bit — or are you planning to recreate the same text-heavy feel in it? Maybe you've already figured out how to make it work, but I just wanted to share my thoughts, especially since accessibility and format are a big part of the experience for me.
I'm not sure about this. If anyone else has had issues then I can try taking a look at specific passages, otherwise I'd suggest making sure that you installed all of the files properly and didn't skip an update folder by accident.Hola, antes que nada, los juegos son bastante buenos. Hay un par de cosas tanto en POW como en CD: en el arco de la Reina y la Princesa, sus imágenes no aparecen. Lo mismo ocurre con los padres de Rio. Saludos.

As far as Twine 2, that existed when I first started but I specifically used Twine 1.4 because of its Storyincludes function that base Twine 2 doesn't have. I've personally never liked it and given the issues that Twine 1 has now, I'd rather just be safe and go to renpy, which as far as I know, has never had these kinds of issues.
