When Predation first started, we were running on a rather obsolete game making platform, and after that, a bad engine. When we switched over to where we are now, we realized just how lacking the game was, and how much more could be done with it, so we are in the process of reworking the level for a brand new, MUCH better experience.

As for why the dog is gone, Patreon came down rather hard on any content that involved feral animals. They went on to specify that an anthro furry paired with a feral animal is "rule breaking content", and any such content hosted on Patreon would be "dealt with".
As unfortunate as it is, we had to remove the feral dog, to prevent Patreon from shutting our page down completely. We did try to jump ship to Subscribestar, for much more freedom, but that's been a slow process.

The current plan is to finish up the last touches on the completely redone first level, and release the build to show all of the improvements, how far we've come.
If you ask me, as someone who was a fan of the project BEFORE being brought on as a dev, I've been a tad bit impatient, myself. I want to see the new content that's been added in a playable state. I haven't been given any specific deadlines, but I have been assured that it's nearly ready for a big release. After the first level is republished, we've already got the groundwork in place for the next full levels, and the engine built to handle it. It's just a matter of putting it all together.
I'm not going to subscribe to your progress. I'm not going to bug test your game. I'm not going to give criticism or cite any other developers. Let's face it. If you wanted to make a game and push it out, you could've done that within 2 - 3 years. Bugs be damned, there will always be some. It's fine. The game worked a majority of the time. I don't care if there were some jank things about it as long as it was playable. The well has run dry and nobody is impressed though. Regardless of your or the other developers intentions, people move on because life is too short. Maybe it's time to consider those factors more strongly.

I'm one of the older supporters for this game, but I've only been giving $1 a month (I always start with a buck to see if a game will go anywhere). First couple years saw content getting cranked out pretty well but I slowly saw the development hell creeping in so I never upped my donation amount. People started complaining on the discord that development kept taking 1 step forward then 3 steps back and was met with "be patient, there's a lot of factors blah blah" by the pay cows. Take a look a Poring's games (granted asian devs are on another level). The dude cranked out attack it devil legion and castle of temptation with tons of content and levels in the time this game has been in progress. I'm a firm believer in that once a game enters development hell and starts back tracking then the game becomes a burden to the dev/s and progress grinds to a halt as they see it as more of a grueling job or a subcriber milking station than as a passion project. Pretty sure a common tactic with crowd funded projects is to milk the subscription platforms. Not accusing this project of that (since it's not pulling in the cash like some of the milkers) but it's defintly just been floating in limbo for awhile with bogus updates and previews of new content. Also should have just ripped off the patreon bandaid and jumped to subscribstar. Many people who have patreon accounts also have subscribstar accounts.

Another update that ends before real gameplay. Great. Back to waiting, but this is really getting old.

I'm gonna level with you. I have very little influence on what does and does not happen, or the deadlines that get set. I'm trying to convince Sephra, himself, to give me a bigger part in development, for the sole purpose of speeding shit up. I KNOW people are frustrated by the development hell. I'm not asking you to subscribe, I'm not asking you to bug test. I'm not asking you to do anything.

What I'm doing here isn't even a "Oh, look upon me, I am putting myself at your feet for judgment!"
This is me, talking with the experience of the person who waited for updates, who eagerly followed all the WIPs posted, and was eventually entrusted with bug testing, then moderation, and now a hand in development.
As badly as the people here want progress to actually happen, I want that just as badly. I am doing what I can to make it happen. And I'm coming here to say it, because I know we still have a playerbase of people on this site. People who share the sentiments that I had, going into the position I'm in.

I'm a player, first, and a developer second. I'm happy to be in the position I am, because I'm able to do SOMETHING to speed things up. But as much as I wish I could pull them aside and say "Hey, we need to post the level already", that's not something I'm able to decide. So what I can do is help out with all the little things they want to happen, before they're comfortable with posting the "big update" that's waiting.

what this site taught me is that if the developers ask the moderators to delete comments with criticism, then the game is not worth the attention and money. FF is a good example of this.

Good thing that's not what I do, in either context. We welcome criticism, especially when it's constructive.

You realize other people can report posts, right? It's then up to the moderators on what to do about those reports. If people's criticisms were getting removed, it's probably because they weren't actual criticisms, or because they were adding stuff that counts as harassment of the devs or complaining about this sites moderators removing a message (which did happen with one of the people in this thread), or because they broke a rule in some way.

Sometimes the best thing to do with a project is abandon it. If the devs are actually learning things and improving their workflows there's very little that will be lost by just moving on. There's just pages and pages of comments of disappointed and apathetic people on here and I can't imagine it's any better in DMs or patreon comments. No one lives forever, don't let a mediocre dying game project bring you down with it.

Heads up to everyone: this apparently creates a folder in your /Pictures directory for no good reason.

It's there to be the screenshots folder, in case you take a screenshot in the game. It's not something needed, and doesn't make any files inside it so it's not taking up space or anything.
