I mean, this 10x times better than the over the shoulder cam. I prefer this more, AND EVEN MORE the first side scroller version

No, Matto is working on Operation Ground Zero, that is the game he's developing.
Matto is providing assets to the adult animator, Gato and Gato is packaging a build (with some help ), Gato is the same guy that has been put in charge of delivering adult content for the main game as a third party module, in order to avoid platform limitation.

From what I understand, this 2D version was abandoned because they lost data from their hardrive and they decided to change the direction of the game to 3D. Is this correct?

they have been working on the other version for years and the last time this particular dev team actually posted any form of game update was in 2023.
They still said that one guy in their team is still working on this game.
