Apologies that it's been such a long time since my latest update. A short break after the Steam release as well as getting a new team member up to speed and into the workflow has extended development time a bit.

Since the spinoff seems to be gaining version numbers I need to check. Is the actual original story being progressed? How is this all supposed to work? I can't download right now to check.

The Spinoff was just a joke he made for April fools I believe, currently the game has two seasons released and he is currently working on the first chapter for the next one.

You are loading the save of the screen that says "Save your game now" from season 1, right? Its a weird error and hard to replicate, I had no such thing and I was using Sancho mod in season 1.
Only thing that can occur to me is run season 1 again and load a save before that screen and do a new save on the screen "Save your game now" and then run season 2 and try to load that new save. That and maybe re-download season 2 and re-install, can be a corrupted file on the installation.

I'm not a renpy or a python expert but for what I searched about that particular error on the web makes me think that is some file missing/corrupted on the installation of season 2 that when loads the season 1 save gives that error. Doubt it is a problem of the season 1 or something that is carried from the saves of season 1 (can be also the persistent file but have doubts about it too), I just said to try make another save and try load them in season 2 to filter out the problem.
Yes before you reinstall everything, re-download season 2 from another uploader if you can. Then just reinstall season 2 and try to load the save you already have on season 2 again. But yeah if doesn't work try reinstall season 1 too and make a speed run to the end of it by skipping, but that is just in a last filtering attempt to find the cause of the error.
Edit: Btw if and when the save from end of season 1 loads in the season 2, don't be surprised to appear a warning saying that the file was made in another computer. That message appears also for me and I suspect it is caused from the renpy version of season 1 (7.4 if not mistaken) is different than on season 2 (7.6 if not mistaken also).

You don't need to replay everything, just start a new Season 2 game and pick the option that lets you pick major decisions from S1 which I believe should be pretty much the same as loading it from save.
Other than this if your game is clean (no mods, walkthroughs or anything external installed) and if you save right after the end of S1 when it tells you to, you should be able to load it normally in S2 when starting a new game.
