Slow down a bit, please. Almost all Ukrainian people speak russian. Before 2022 most of citizens of Ukraine speak only in russian (even Zelensky learn ukrinian in 2021 - check this fact). There are strong culture connections between two countries and people, and big company to switch primary language to ukrainian starting only on 2022 as answers of current conflict.
By that way language in games means nothing. And I support point that most of H-devs are Ukraine citizens. Honestly I don't know why.
Really? Are u pretty sure? You remember all range of russian IP's?
First of all you're completely wrong. Ukrainian has been the standard language in Ukraine since before the turn of the millennium. While Russian is still a pretty commonly spoken language there to this day the reality is it was over 2 to 1 favoring Ukrainian since at least 2001.
Secondly the modern Ukrainian variation of the Cyrillic alphabet has been in use since the 18th century. It actually predates the the current form of Russian Cyrillic which wasn't formalized til 1918.
Third what corporations do has literally nothing to do with the language options within indie Renpy games since those are handled entirely at the Dev's discretion including the images/text of the menus and the text of the dialog itself right down to the font used. On this note though it is far more likely for Russian devs to be routing payments through Ukraine or other nearby countries these days given last I looked effectively all the major crowd funding platforms had blackballed Russia over their illegal invasion.
Next do I remember the full range of Russian IP's? Certainly not anymore but at the time I was still working on my software development degree which among other things involved CISCO classes to teach us about the protocol stack so I was playing around with things like wireshark including doing route tracing stuff just for kicks which gave me a much greater knowledge of IP distribution by nation than most.
Finally yes the language used in games means a lot actually if they are officially shipped by the dev. English is basically the defacto gaming language on the planet on the basis that North America is the biggest gaming market followed by Europe where in both case English is either the primary language or commonly spoken second language especially by younger people who are more likely to be gamers so if there are only two languages packaged with the game and you know the dev isn't based in a country where English is the primary language it gives you a damn good idea where the dev is from cause the other one is almost certainly their native langauge.
Side note not saying there aren't a fair number of Ukrainian h-devs nor trying to marginalize their contributions to the community but let's be fair if we're talking about the sum total of Russian speakers in Europe and Asia let alone worldwide statistically speaking they're most likely to be ethnically Russian and based in Russia than not.
