So the first thing you have to shift to is gear 2.
You see the current gear on the speedometer and always just up it by 1 whenever asked and the sign is green.
So for example the speedometer shows a that youre on gear 3 -> you click on 4 to shift to gear 4 -> the speedometer shows a 4 now -> you click on the 5 to shift to gear 5 ..
Or you use the walkthrough mod which allows you to skip races completly if its necessary
