At start of story it's friends with benefits I'd say. You then have the choice of dating her or ending the friends with benefits thing when she wants to make it more serious.

So him cheating (and this was once btw...and he was caught while at it...it's wasnt a serial cheating situation) is completely understandable. Still wrong though yes I agree.
So yes, whether directly, indirectly, intentionally or otherwise, she is partly to blame (as every action has a reaction) even though the reality is only the MC made a choice he didn't have to make.

Yeah, I do, and I already wrote at least 2 walls of text explaining why. Prioritizing one's career, hobbies and almost anything else over their marriage will inevitably lead to cheating and/or a divorce. It's a real-life fact, and she herself admitted their relationship wasn't exactly all sunshine and rainbows as you'd think, considering her anger outbursts toward the MC.
You don't believe or disagree with me, it's perfectly fine and understandable, but just read a few statistics IRL and see why most couples, married or not, usually break up. It's either the lack of satisfying sex life or the money. Sometimes, it's both, and I don't understand why a man or a woman should force themselves to play happy couple when they want more from their life and are anything but happy and pleased with their relationship, like our MC was. you are absolutely right on both counts. It takes two to tango. Did the MC do a bad thing? Yes, cheating is a shitty thing to do. But how they got that point? That's absolutely on both partners.
On the divorce thing, I experienced that first hand. My parents should have divorced but they didn't. Staying together for the kids almost always ends bad, not just for them but for the kids too. Probably would have had a happier childhood if they did, it was fucking toxic in that household.

Its really simple, really really very simple.
If your relationship sucks, there are two possible solutions:
a) You comminucate about it with your partner, work on the relationship to repair it
b) or you break up
Cheating is never a valid solution, no matter the circumstances. If it would be like you said that allison showed him the cold shoulder for 5 years (which it isnt) it would still be Jake's respnsibility to either talk with her about it or divorce her before fucking other girls. They both focused on other things (lily, work, car, whatever) instead of each other which dooms a marriage.
Nobody says a divorce was unresonable and would have been (from jake's side) but cheating simply never is.
