If done correctly, the sex scenes can be used to advance character developement and plot points. The writer just has to make the sex mean something in the context of the story, not just throw random sex scenes in for cheap titillation. Every sex scene should have meaning and purpose.

2. When she sleeps in your bed, she finds the handcuffs and fantasizes about him being restrained while she teases him while masturbating.
3. She straight up says pretty much the same thing at the start of the scene.

Maybe it was a bit more subtle than having her somehow say outright that she has a control or gentle femdom kink, but I thought the foreshadowing was there.
