It stops being confusing when you realize the progress updates are half-truths or outright lies a lot of the time. If the game were ready to be released, they likely would have released it by now. As for guaranteeing a delivery date on the 25th? We'll see.

From the posts Alorth made in radiant's discord it doesn't seem to me that alorth is a coworker but more like someone SirD pays to do the art and animations. Kind of like Perveteer pays alorth to do the animations for his game. So that is probably why alorth doesn't really pressure SirD that much, at the end of the day this is 100% SirD's game and SirD just commissions the art and animations from Alorth.

If scammers like Braindrop are making somewhere around 40 times that off of a way worse game than SD isn't likely to lose much more than he already has.

To be fair he lost almost a quarter of his subs in the last year. He had a good increase of new subs in march but after that he just kept losing subs.
But isn't that to be expected? The most recent update came out on March 31st 2024. That might even explain the increase in March if one assumes that the number of paying members follows the update cycle with a little time shift. Since then the game has not made any obvious progress and the paying members are losing their patience, i.e. they stop being paying members.
Sure it is always a chicken-egg problem: One needs money to make a living and have the time to produce content, and one has to produce content to earn money from it. However, in most areas of any kind of industry, the producers/suppliers/manufacturer/whoever have to create their goods in advance and are paid later. So this situation is nothing out of the ordinary, let alone wrong.
Moreover, $4,600 is still a decent income in most parts of the world even after paying taxes and other dues.

site you can see that they got a lot of subs really fast when they first released the game. From march 30th 2020 to May 20th of the same year they gained over 800 subs. That is pretty fucking rare most games take a while to reach those numbers. The first year of development they reached 1.5k subs. The support for the game was there from the very start, something that most devs don't have. But for some weird reason SirD seems to be determined to kill his own game. Dude spends his entire day on twitter while people are still waiting for the update.And that's what make me sad, maybe a little angry, too, but mostly sad. For approximately the same amount of money per month (4.6k$), I have to work really hard, most of the time around 10hrs a day without any access to Internet, Social Media or whatsoever. And I have to pay taxes and dues as well. Unfortunately, I lack any talent to come up with a good story myself and I am a complete dilettante when it comes to graphic or photo editing. I am not complaining, because that is how life looks for most people. My income is above average in my area, it is sufficient for my purposes and I am mostly satisfied with my life.
But it makes me sad to see someone with an obvious talent which people are willing to pay for and that someone seems to waste that opportunity. SirD already earns the same amount of money as I do for doing what exactly? If he (or she?) pulled himself together and published an update bi-annually, he could probably make a fortune. The game is really good and unique.

I mean honestly most of the talent comes from the people in Alorth's studio doing the art. I love this game, but it's not like this has a super deep and complex story and you can easily find someone to code a renpy game. This is not one of those VNs that have mini games and stuff like that.
