If this was true the people that play this game would all be in jail :HideThePain:
Read again what I wrote: "deeply hidden in real life." Most deviants behave throughout their lives as law-abiding, sedate citizens. For example, most pyromaniacs have never set anything on fire. They only dream and playing games or reading novels.

Because they cause. And this was proven by highly educated people.
Moreover, people in games act in accordance with their true attitudes, which are often deeply hidden in real life.
You're conflating association with causation. People acting in accordance to their hidden natures in video games is not the same as video games creating or causing hidden natures to spontaneously exist in people. Those are two very different claims.

To the idea that people behave differently in video games I can agree with nuance. People don't behave differently because of the video games itself, it's being enabled by anonymity and/or the lack of consequences. People often behave with far less empathy and courtesy even in discussion forums such as this one, so it's not exclusive to video games.

To the idea video games cause behaviors in people - no study has never found conclusive evidence proving video games cause certain kinds of behavior in people. The common claim is violent video games cause people to be violent. If that were true, then I would LOVE to know what kind of video games Genghis Khan was playing in the 12th century - a time period when video games did not exist. What exposure to violence actually does is desensitize people to violence. A person can be both numb to violence and still choose to not engage in violence.

"invariably" :HideThePain:

You should seek help if you genuinely believe that the way people behave in adult visual novels translates to real life. From what you wrote, it sounds like you're the incel pretending to be someone else.

Kinda reminds me of uneducated people claiming that video games make people violent.
Bless your heart!

I sense....deflection. ;)

Oh man, there's so many wrong things with this statement starting with using "highly educated" as a buzzword, leading me to think the closest you've ever gotten to reading a peer reviewed study is having used one as a napkin when you munched on crayons in school or the library.
Moreover, people in games act in accordance with their true attitudes, which are often deeply hidden in real life.
Massive, sweeping generalisation of psychology making this BS.

You can't be serious with these statements.

Yeah, Maddie's Donka is the only reason I still follow this thread 10 years from now, when we finally get her anal scene. Between this, ASOIAF and The Door of Stone, I'm wondering if we can't just pool our $$$ together to enlist Brandon Sanderson and have him speed-write painfully mediocre endings to all three.
Try to picture myself making a f95 account for the first time because I was so happy to play this game and see Maddie :)

Video games do not make you perverts. It just reveals who you are by giving you power. Power does not corrupt. Power reveals. It reveals who you are when no one else can stop you.

I am revealed as someone who likes doting on short, extroverted, ditzy blondes, and redheads in general. I need a short Christmas update where I take them shopping for clothes and shoes, and they pull me into the changing rooms to watch them change.

That is weird because pretty much every study that has come out about that subject, says the exact opposite.
You're lucky that being dumb isn't a crime, because you would definitely spend the rest of your life in prison.

I rely on the opinions of scientists, not on surveys conducted among idiots on the street (like you). Games influence the perception of the world. In different ways. Demoralization has been going on since childhood. Children do not distinguish real life from virtual life. I read about an accident where a boy killed his friend with a knife. Then he was very surprised that he did not have three lives.

The fact that you think scientific studies on the subject are just "surveys on the street" just proves my point. To the ignore list you go.

I would advice you both to drop it and return to the thread's topic or just go to another thread.

As for studies, no, playing Terrorists in Counter Strike and bombing empty crates does not make you a future terrorist. Killing is wrong and we all know that. It is a clear cut matter.

How we view women, intimacy, relationships, entitlements, and romance is not as clear cut and prone to influences for good or ill.

And, lastly, in things we are far less knowledgeable about, we are far more likely to accept pop culture and other things. The clearest, most documented study on the last point is the movie Jaws and its noticeable, measurable effect on shark populations and perceptions, as well as actual institutional actions in the general human population with regards to sharks.

I already put him on the ignore list so the discussion is over. At least for me.
