your expectations may be too high. Most dev. should have some idea of their path. No one would have a CLEAR picture unless it's part 2 and 3 of a planned trilogy. Not even for AAA studios. You start from a rough draft and you work from there and changes happen along the way.
I didn't care about your other point, where you're still holding onto the past where kickstarter didn't exist. This is how things are nyao, and there's no going back to that. Fundraisers can come out with good games from projects, like Crosscode and PSU Clementine.
But it is true that there is a lot of garbage around. Most of these lewd VN projects are trash. The idea of the lewd VN itself is trash. The problem isn't dev's, it's the audience. The audience started looking towards indie games Very favorably and were willing to shell out $$ for trashy games like Defender Quest. They're willing to shell out $$ for trashy lewd VN's made with Renpy. Renpy games are not for game dev's, but "artists" that want to earn cash without attempting to code a real game. All they have to do is render, and that is what they do all day. They don't really go anywhere. These projects are very easy to start and many people try to get in on the cash grab.
Then to address wat you're talking about. "Dev's" that respond to the community either aren't serious "dev's" or they have a team. You don't get Any work done if you engage with the community for half of your day every day. Real Dev's are going to be doing actual coding. If you're looking at a 1 man project that is very vocal with the community, you know that project is going in the garbage. In fact, serious dev's Would have a team. Crosscode didn't lift off due to the effort of 1 person. They had an idea, they got talent together, and built it up. That's how dev. works. A one man team's success rate is going to be Low. Progression will be Slow too.
