Most novels aren't choose your own adventure either. Just adding Visual to the front doesn't guarantee that either. Especially not when the post is tagged very clearly as being Kinetic. VN on most of these sites just means the type of system used, not that it has lots of choices. It's just to differentiate from Unity or RPGM games.
Uhh, no, bs. There are plenty of VN's that use Unity AND RPGM, it's just not something most people would gravitate to since it's far simpler to use Ren'Py these days. Which is why we see a lot of popular short VN's remade for Ren'Py today.

It's really is the KINETIC part of the name that dictates a game is a linear story with no paths. Some people will throw in what amounts to "Sex - Yes or No" decisions to skip sex scenes just to avoid having to label the game as a KN. And this site REALLY needs to separate the VN and KN bc more than 90% of people want nothing to do with KN's. Most people generally agree that, if given the choice between a KN and... anything else, they'd choose that anything else. You know, actual porn, fully animated/voiced scenes, etc especially when you consider the average quality of writing in porn games.

The funny part is, probably the same saying they won't play a KN are the first ones asking for a walkthrough mod for a game with choices. Best with a "see all scenes" feature...

I have a question. Does disable lesbian content also include threesomes? I just want to skip 1 on 1 lesbian scenes not the threesomes if there is any.

Where did you get that number? Care to prove it?

I don't care about choices at all apart from ability to block particular kinks and particularly ugly LIs. I don't have time to replay multiple endings which give you illusion of choice. When a good story has a proper ending, I don't want a dozen of other endings. I know there are quite a few people who share the view on this site.

Give me a good story and I don't care about paths, choices and other BS. Unfortunately a good story is one in a hundred. If a story is bad, you cannot save it with "choices". If a story is good, it speaks for itself no matter KN or VN.

I'm the same way. I don't mind KN's as long as the story is good and i can avoid certain kinks. I do like branching stories also but both is fine as long as i like the story.

That may be your personal take on it, but I know it's not mine and I chat regularly with a bunch of people who think the same way. We're all perfectly fine with 'kinetic' stories in books, tv, movies, etc. But put the word game into and suddenly everyone thinks it's wrong to have a single strongly defined story told from beginning to end without branching out all over the place???

There are countless games raved about endlessly that do not have any choices in them whatsoever. Narrative games more often than not are the ones taking home big awards. Throwing in choice for the sake of having choice almost always makes a game poorer. And it sure as hell takes the single-person devs making most of the content on sites like these longer to make.

A specific narrative focus can definitely make a VN better. The dev knows exactly what will happen and when and can better design their game around that focus. Instead of changing direction unendingly to placate the noisy handful of people who can't read tags and feel that their opinion is so vitally important to all and sundry that they must repeatedly shout it from the rooftops.

Also, I never said that all VNs are made using Ren'py. Only that Visual Novels are a particular genre of content that involves storytelling. RPGM is best used for making, le gasp, Role Playing Games. I have yet to see a proper VN made in RPGM. They always involve wandering about maps with a tiny character model, literally moving from plot point to plot point physically across a game world. And Unity games tend to be all over the spectrum in execution, though I have at least seen some true VNs made in that engine. But more often than not Unity tends to be used to make other genres of adult games. Platformers, life sims, 3D model futzabouts (where you create a model you wanna bone and then put it through different sex scenes with no story whatsoever), etc.

If you don't like kinetic stories, don't play/read them. But don't act like no one else does or that they don't have a purpose. This idea that choice should be ever-present so people can avoid kinks or whatever is pretty stupid IMO. If you read the tags and it has content you don't like, just don't play it. Don't get part way through and get salty that the dev who informed you of what was inside didn't then let you skip some of that content. This is their story to tell. It's on the reader to go into the experience with their eyes open.

100% of people want nothing to do with....ah, never mind, not worth it.

They are made as customs in daz.

In daz there are morph sliders, skins, and clothes that are interchangable among the models.

Start with the base plain model, and add morphs, skin and cloths. (fyi morphs are what determine what the characters look like in a more precise manner)

Think of it like a super, in-depth, character creator in a game.

Thank you for the fast reply. Did you ever try to make a character from scratch in blender or do you think it's not really possible to come close to daz-like realism? For me, it's always really nice to see less "common" characters, that's why I am asking.

Modelling is a whole lot different than using Daz. it is very possible to make characters in blender, with all the sculpting and miodelling tools available, though.

As a matter of fact, IN MY EXPERIENCE, most people that use sculpting/modelling software, look down on Daz, especially because of its "animation" tools.

NONE of this is to say that daz doesnt takl skill, or some level of talent to be used well.
I have been using daz for almost 5 years, and im still learning new things.

Think of Daz as a stage, and you are the director. In general terms, anyway.

Some may disagree with my assessment.

And yes, blender could easily look more realistic than Daz.

There is something about this game that has been bothering me slightly since I started playing it way back, halfway through Arc 1 and I've finally figured it out.

Every character has slightly closed eyes which makes them look like they are high, drunk, or exhausted all the time.

In the real world, most folks have slightly closed eyes most of the time. Anyone constantly wide-eyed is likely on something - hopefully it's just caffeine, but it could be coke, uppers or they could just be absolutely insane.

Social commentary by the dev on the State the story takes place in, perhaps? I know if I ever made an AVN taking place in, say...New York, all the characters would be ugly assholes. Because I'm into realism...and not at all because I am from a much better city a bit North of that cesspool. :ROFLMAO:

Good Lord! Are you from Boston? Or worse, Montreal? NYC sucks, but everything north of it sucks equally if not worse - especially in Canada.
