Can i see the stats you base this claim on? :sneaky::coffee:
But whatever, do as you like i guess.:coffee:
This game, from day 1, was clearly intended for an audience (as far as the female protagonist goes) that is mostly or rather even outright solely interested in girl on girl stuff. The Dev never was intentionally ambiguous about that (so the Dev absolutely did not try to lure in people with false pretenses) and there even is a male protagonist for those who prefer straight content who gets no less content than the female one. I've basically read more or less every single post in this thread and by large the people interested in the female protagonist route (who also are an active part of the discussion) are here for exactly that, the fact it's a female protag who can be played as a lesbian, in a game, that offers about 50/50 in terms of content for straight and for lesbian enthusiasts. There is an abundancy of games with female protagonists who are only meant to be fucked by a plethora of male NPCs, no need to try and ruin the few games which are not like that & that is literally what that demand is.

Edit: Also it's not as if the Dev just shits on people asking for it, the Dev literally said they'll add some of it, despite a majority of the active enjoyers of the female protag route being fairly opposed to it and, from past experiences, worried about the prospect. And that's totally cool, of course it's nice if everyone gets to enjoy a game. It's just prone to cause the respective Devs to, sooner or later, kinda collapse from the amount of work they took trying to make sure that there's stuff to be happy about for all kinds of players.

I'm thrilled with this game. Even if I don't quite understand the point of the training sessions yet. Finally, a game where the focus is not on big cocks and breasts and girls are only portrayed as sex addicts. The lesbian path is very well thought out and appeals to me (as a woman). Keep it up, I'm looking forward to the next update

Yea, it's quite obvious the appeal of this game lies mainly in its lesbian path. The hetro path feels like an afterthought and is quite honestly flavorless and run of the mill.

I'm surprised this hasn't gotten more attention, this is extremely high quality.

I disagree.

Uh, what? There are two primary forms male or female protagonist being an afterthought usually takes: different amount of content and it being written for one, with the second protagonist then later being added poorly.
The difference between the male protagonist and female protagonist "paths" are:
1. The sex scenes - which currently have the same number, length, context and seeming "amount of thought put into them?".
2. Renders in which the protagonist is visible (often the hands) - dito.
3. Coworker of a different gender, meaning there's an otherwise identical dialogue block that differs regarding to that in the prologue.
4. Small changes (1-3 lines) in the dialogue, differing in pronouns and expressions.
5. One (1) extra line for female characters - captain Gerard saying that women shouldn't dirty their hands with bloodied objects.
So I'd say it's not this one.

The second one is harder to say, because it's a bit more subjective - one person's "added poorly" can be another person's "this is great", but at least to me it doesn't feel like that at all.

Doesn't mean that the female protagonist playthrough isn't more interesting/flavorfull/fun for some or many players (it's certainly for me), but that's not because the male protagonist is an afterthought, but because what the players in question bring to the table themselves - whether it's being used to male protagonist in fantasy/isekai and the female protagonist being a breath of fresh air, fantasy/isekai themes being a welcome added variety to the usual female protagonist fare, just prefering female protagonists or stuff like the same content feeling just slightly different, just a bit more impactful, to some players because of who they're playing as. Which is cool, just not, y'know, the other being an afterthought :geek:.

To add to this, Rebel Duet was actually conceptualized at first as a male protagonist game, in order to set it apart from my other game. Once the first-person perspective was decided on, I chose to include both male and female protagonists (with the exact same amount of unique content) as it became much more feasible.

So, there isn't any priority given to one over the other. I'm not even sure which of the two is more popular among players, since knowing this data wouldn't affect the development regardless.

So, Steam release soon? :)
Yup. I'm hoping to have 0.8 released by the end of this month, and then 0.9 (which will coincide with the Steam release) between late August to early September!

Related and unrelated to the talk from before, I usually play a fem protag in games where there is a choice. And a personal nitpick of mine is that there are times when I see a line of dialogue or whatnot and I think "there is no way I'd accept a male protag saying/doing this". For instance, in this game I'd expect the whole sword training thing to be completely different between genders, which I did not check but I imagine it isn't.
Just a thought of mine, if I was a developer and making a game like this I'd try to write 2 different characters instead of only different sex scenes. But I'm not a developer so whatever.
But really, I am still waiting to see proper use of helmets and spears in just one medievalish VN somewhere.

Thought I should give a short update to let everyone know how the game is going.

v0.8 is roughly two weeks from completion, and is the biggest release so far at well over 400 images. This release will conclude Act 2 and set the stage for the next story arc.

Here's a few teasers of what you can expect in v0.8. I hope you will enjoy playing it. (y)
