Honestly, I think this is a case of him being kind of "left behind". Even looking back on his older stuff, it's not that different animation wise from the stuff he does today yet the standard has risen and with that all of our expectations did as well. A lot of animators new and old are stepping up since the said standard is rising so to stay relevant, they obviously want and need to improve.
I'm not sure if it's complacency or something else but it really does feel like he doesn't care much for improving his animation at this point. Don't believe he's unable to improve just that he doesn't really try to for some reason.

based on what i can gleam from that site that sounds like a traditional japanese garment, since it only takes a snapshot of comments made at the time, there's only ever a few and they're generally happy. obviously im missing the half-dozen or so that were made later but even if they were negative or constructive criticism, unless there were 100s of unsatisfied patrons?? he would prolly just ignore them which is something you can safely do when you have 1000~ of paying customers.
