The real answer is: We don't know yet. There is a lot of speculation but nothing is canon at this point.
Since the game has no forced sex (that I remember of), the dev would have to make a lot of different paths in order to account for all the possible combinations of choices. That doesn't seem realistic.

Also, how would he avoid getting banned on Patreon?

Says the newb who's here for five minutes. :ROFLMAO: Really, there are some great games here if you dig hard enough. Some of them have shit porn, though, or even barely any at all.
You are incorrect.

And your compulsion to respond like that to my original comment is... telling.

G'day.

So two comments in and you're already being a... Well, let's just say your comments are telling.

Or maybe you're an alternate for a Mod or other creature that's been around awhile and are using this persona to simply be a... Well, we won't go into that too pointedly.

It kind of feels like everything is at this point, nothing happening and the most likely outcome is a quickly made unsatisfactory finally.
Unfortunately that was the likely outcome of a flawed system.

People get payed to work on a project without deadlines, the longer it takes the more they get payed. Projects drag for years as a slug pace and eventually they just look extremely outdated and even hardcore fans lose interest and the income of the dev drops with no end in sight for the project itself.

Can anyone see a problem in the approach?

Have you noticed its the VNs with a focus on high quality renders/animations and story and characters that take a while to update? Probably a bit of a correlation there.

Not to say there isn't an incentive, some devs are definitely guilty, but nothing Ive seen has suggested this dev is one who'll intentionally drag it out.

Yes and no. I can think of some top tier projects that now are clearly stalling and the execution, while technically very high, start to feel lazy and uninspired. Sometimes crap projects take forever and when they are out the output is even crappier then the last time, which is not the case of Ripples, which has a fantastic story, sometimes high quality project release at a steady pace with a lot of content each time, but 4-5 years are a geological age both in the gaming industry and in the professional life of a skilled person. It's unlikely to think that a project can keep on the effort and the quality for such a long span of time. Just think about how many project got abandoned, how many had a sudden rushed ending and how many just go on slow an directionless. How few, instead, got to the end without

I could afford to do more
You do more than 95% of people.

I'll subscribe to my favourites VN's patreons and get the official releases when the updates come out, but i can't offer that support that all year, i'll generally go down to the lowest level that gets dev updates. If i had more disposable income i would though.
I'm really fucking tired of the cynical bitching in this community
Fucking same.

I see 829 full animations, and 60 pseudo-animations (where images dissolve into another and back again) in images.rpy. I didn't check that they're all used in game, and I didn't check if there aren't more declared somewhere else.

edit: I spoke too soon. It's 824 full animations
5 less full animations. It's over, completly unplayable now. No wonder people come to complain saying the game is abandoned /s
