Month end progress report
New
Another month has passed, and this time another year has gone by. Unfortunately, 2025 did not turn out the way I had planned. The beginning was very bad, the end was quite good, but from the point of view of my games, it is definitely a negative that I did not manage to finish Chapter 10 of Rise of the Crime Lord. I definitely want to change that this year, because I'm fed up with this chapter.
The good news is that I managed to complete a very large section in December. Blocks 4 and 5 progressed the most, and these are also the largest, as they contain more storylines for Cora and Rick. I plan to finish what's left of these two blocks next week, and by the end of the week, I'll be done with block 6 as well. There isn't much left of blocks 4 and 5, and block 6 isn't complicated and can be rendered very quickly.
Block 1:

3. Block:

Block 4:

Block 5:

Block 6:

It's also good news that I've rendered the last image, which takes place in Reg Argay's vacation home. This is great because it caused the most headaches in the entire Chapter 10. It has huge 8K textures that my old video card couldn't handle, so I had to downgrade all textures to at least 4K. After that, I was able to render, but it still took about 20 minutes per image. Then, after my video card crashed at the beginning of the last year (which also caused one of my HDDs to fail), I lost the downgraded textures, which meant I had to retexture all the old settings if I didn't want to rebuild them all from scratch. The silver lining was that I was able to rerendered some of the settings with 8K textures, because the new VGA handles them easily and it only took me 10 minutes per image to do so.
So, this stage is now a thing of the past, it's over. What's left doesn't require me to play around with textures, and in fact, they're very easy to handle. For some, setting up the characters can still be a bit fiddly, but it's not nerve-wracking. So hopefully, by the end of next week, I'll be able to announce the completion of three blocks.
And more good news: while I was rendering in the background and trying to enjoy the holidays, I completely wrote Chapter 11. Since I had been thinking about it for years, it was already fully formed in my mind, so I didn't have to rethink anything while writing, and there will be no need to rewrite it either. And yes, as I promised, I won't make another mistake as big as Chapter 10, which got out of hand. While it consists of 83 sections, Chapter 11 is made up of only 10 sections. What's more, we return to the familiar surroundings of Perfection, where I can "film" our heroes in ready-made locations. So Chapter 11 is guaranteed not to take years to complete.
And I think that's it. No bad news for now, except that I've caught a slight cold. Nothing serious, just a little cough, a sore throat, and a slight headache. It was very cold on New Year's Eve. I had planned to take it easy this week, but I threw that plan out the window because I started working yesterday (I still had to recover from my New Year's Eve hangover).
So, with this momentum, I'm trying to tackle 2026. My plans currently include Chapters 10, 11, and 12, as well as at least two Distant Horizon updates. Then we'll see how we get on. I've learned that it's better not to plan, just to try to control the way the tide carries you along. I hope you all have a year full of success and happiness.
