so far it has absolutely been a game that has characters seemingly totally fine with sleeping around, with several partners, with no consequence so far.
That depends on the girl.

Some girls are more liberal when it comes to sex than others.

Like you find in any group. Although here, perhaps they are a bit more liberal than normal. But it's a porn game, otherwise it would be boring.

Right, that is kind of my point. There is no harem in the game because the dev said so, not because it doesnt fit in with the characters of the story. If you make characters that are sleeping around with several people and then dont give the player that same agency with the characters just to get people to play different routes it feels weird.

Eh, I don't know about you but in my group of friends, there are women who are somewhat on the slutty side and there are some who are on the more conservative side. The same with the men.

But although I have had male friends who had more than one girlfriend at the same time and somehow tried to juggle them for a while (failed miserably after a while), I never knew anyone who had a harem.

In another word: realism.

Characters who are sleeping around with several different people isn't equivalent to the player having a harem.

The equivalent to that would be a singular NPC character-say Charlotte, having EVERY male in the game (including MC) be her partner while all the other women were left high and dry and single.

You can see how unrealistic that would be. Having multiple partners is realistic (for better or for worse). Having multiple EXCLUSIVE partners exists mostly in mormonism, fundamentalist middle eastern countries, and AVN games.

Well, harems also exist in the real world, just in cultures other than Western ones.

Personally, I don't look for realism in games.

Yes, yes, possibly I'm a hypocrite, but if it's the MC who does it, well done. But if a character other than the MC does it, I don't like it.

Well, as far as I know there are no elves, minotaurs, ogres, dragonborn, gnomes, etc., and that doesn't mean I stopped playing D&D. Like I say, I don't think it's important for a game to be realistic.

To be clear - I agree with this, games needn't be constrained by "what's realistic", often high fantasy is the most fun. The guy I was responding to was asserting what happens in this game was a contrived occurence from the dev as opposed to a more organic set up - and I interpreted this call for pragmatism as wanting realism. But yeah, realism often isnt fun (as I know too often arguing with sim-fans in traditional non adult games).

Maybe Harem is the wrong word since it has a literal definition on this site. But the story so far isnt one that seems like the girls, or guys for that matter, care too much about everyone sleeping around. Two of the girls already sleep with 2 or more memebers, and the 3rd seems to think the idea of it isnt crazy while watching them have sex.

The routes in this game are just way more strict and on the rails than what the story seems like it should entail so far with the characters. Like needing to not visit a girl and instead go read at the library to make sure you have the correct label for another girl down the line.

I guess I see what you're getting at - from a "feeling" perspective it seems incongruent between how the npcs act and talk, and how the mc actually progresses through the game; and I could understand this being a valid complaint. If the characters exist in a chill, "whatever dude just chill and have fun" universe, the mc very much exists in an "autistic min/maxing" universe.

I doubt that many harems in the real word are anything like harems in VN games. The unrealistic part about VN harems is that the LIs don’t act like real people—i.e., they are not jealous of one another and do not jockey for power within the group. LIs in VN harems act like sex dolls.

I can understand why some men enjoy that. But it can’t be justified as being realistic. It’s also a stretch to compare the harem genre to prototypical fantasy genres. Unless it is a harem fantasy, the elven, Minotaur, etc. fantasy characters will still have agency within the setting.

That's up to you but this game seems to aim for a fairly realistic experience.

Honestly, I do find this refreshing. There are too many cookie cutter Pokemon games.
Completely agree, and as I mentioned in my review this is my favorite genre of game; not really 'harem', not really 'ntr', not really 'rpg' but a soft blend of all elements that feels more like real life. Though reflecting on what microjive said last night, I do think to better fit this mold it could soften up the conditions/thresholds for certain outcomes to make it feel more organic and less stringent.

I wonder if Charlotte would be willing to date me as well as Peter?
A woman can have more than one boyfriend after all.

Oops,

Hang on. Am I supposed to play a different 'game' before starting this one?
Young again?
I kinda think I tried it awhile back and wasn't very fond of it.

Thx

Anyone else having a "Missing LICENSE.txt" error when running the game in Joiplay on Android?

In case you're wondering why I'm using Joiplay, it's because the game crashes when using the SanchoMOD with the native android versions and I prefer to be able to delete the game between updates while keeping just the saves folder, which is no longer possible with installed apps unless they have a save location outside the android\data folder.

Note that the error happens both with and without the mod, and both the compressed and uncompressed versions.

Code:
I'm sorry, but an uncaught exception occurred.

While running game code:
  File "game/functionality/validity.rpy", line 7, in <module>
Exception: This copy of the game is missing the LICENSE.txt file, probably due to modding/compression.
This is not only illegal and disrespectful to the credited artists, it also breaks the game that relies on the file being present.
Please restore the LICENSE file for the game to work properly.
If your copy of the game came without the LICENSE file, please get in contact with the distributor of this copy and make them aware of the issue.
