You're partially wrong.
The plot pushes one of the MC's enjoying masochism and the other doing sex work to some extent or other, but there are paths that embrace those things to different degrees. It's not your standard bunch of ugly bastards, but there are limits to how much you as the player get to shape the characters and story. How restrictive you find those limits is probably a matter of taste.
(Note that I haven't seen the most recent update yet.)
pass. im fine if its an optional path, but i prefer my MCs not being completely spineless. thanks for letting me know!

The dev would probably respond that they've worked hard to tell a story of two young women who are not spineless, but are discovering themselves and their sexual proclivities. To what extent they've succeeded -- or how interesting/acceptable those proclivities are to the player -- is a matter for the player to judge. It's completely fair if it isn't for you, of course.

I don't have a lot to add here. I can't dispute what gregers has said. I'll put this here for others who might be on the fence: these heroines are flawed. They make questionable decisions. They endure a fair amount of trauma. One of them will be dealing with PTSD in Chapter 4.
But I don't think they are spineless:

I have to say this is one of the best VN's I have read in a while -
- Now that Ester is wanting to go get the princess I just hope they don't switch again and Ester runs into the thieves chasing the princess and they switch again lol - I would love to see them team up and clean house with all the corruption there is in the palace - Awesome story DeepBauhaus and I can't wait for the next update - Thank you for sharing your story with us

Yeah, having just played through it I had the same thought/worry. Esther heading off towards the village could be a set-up for something like that.
The ideal outcome would of course be Brigitte seizing back power and cleaning house thoroughly, sending her false friends packing and ordering messy public executions for Jonquil, Bruno, and his crew, while sending her new no. 1 assassin to dispose of Titus. Esther could have Tristan to toy with as a reward.
Alack and alas, we don't often get all that we hope for in this life. Instead this update sees Esther's big bid for independence leading her right back to performing at Jonquil's behest. And Cassandra and Be'Keh board the high treason train with Jonquil and Will, so that's something.
Oh well, Simon's sister-in-law looks cute though.

Other than that, I see that the prologue has been heavily revised, seemingly to guide player sympathies by pointing out (intended) goodies and baddies more clearly. A touch heavy-handed perhaps, but maybe it'll work for someone playing the game for the first time.

No, no. Do exactly that thing. I'd love to see Bruno try breaking Esther now that she's the confident spy girlie... though, it might cause some confusion now that Esther's hair is different. I mean, her previous shorter hair could have been written off by Bruno as her cutting it to avoid his people spotting her.
On the upside, we can have Esther discover she can perform with other girls which i intend to be her preference from now on. Gonna take my silver lining where i can.
Something is clearly wrong with me, because i wanted Brigitte to play matchmaker for those two immediately.
(it's not cheating on your spouse when it's on Crown Princess's explicit orders, is it)
