Done, thank you!

Curiosity question please.

There are 2 flavors of the game. 4k, which is 12Gb
and
1080p which is 2.7Gb

Are you/Can you please get a torrent for the 1080p as well?

(someone had seen your post but needed the 1080 instead)

Thanks so much
Cheers
It's usually very rare that we'd do this and even when we do, it'd be temporary and usually gets deleted in under 24 hours. For example, for super high traffic games such as BeingADIK (back when the game was 20gb+ and it was common to see thousands of people on the torrent at once)

Sorry for the wait on a reply too, I've been pretty busy IRL. If you really do need it for whatever reason, I'm happy to make one but for our own sanity - we delete them. In short, it can be very time consuming keeping track of ~18,000 games and if we allowed them to double up then we'd probably lose our minds lol.

A qBittorrent update fucked us up for ~12 hours and new torrents didn't have a seed come online. I've just fixed it, we have alerts for things like this but this specific one doesn't ping me so it was left to sit for far too long.

It's fixed now, sorry to anyone affected.

The european datacenter we use for one of our proxies is having issues. If you have a VPN, swap it to NA and you'll be fine.
Our provider is aware, if things aren't fixed reasonably soon I'll reroute our traffic through a different proxy.

edit; I'm holding off on re-routing as things appear fine, for now at least.

Not sure if it's related to the raid-issue-that-wasn't, but at least two torrents of the last torrents I've downloaded have been broken/damaged/incorrect;

- fails unpacking (torrent downloads fine, forced recheck confirms integrity, but 7zip still fails unpacking). Worth noting is that the compressed folder has a different name ("CityOfBrokenDreamers-1.15") than the "official" download (BrokenDreamers-1.15.0-pc).

- unpacks fine, but content is wrong; unsure what version it is, but it definitely isn't 1.1.0, the executable crashes on start, the file structure is wrong and it cannot be patched to the current (1.1.0) version.

In both cases downloading from the respective threads works fine on the same drive (so shouldn't be a drive issue on my part).

Are you extracting with 7zip and/or using a computer with a small amount of ram?
Both of these games are pretty large and we use LZMA2 to compress which can be hard on cpu/ram to extract, especially for bigger games.

Using 7zip, and 64 gigs of ram should be enough, no? ;)

As mentioned, downloading from the respective threads works fine.

edit: specifically using 7z v24.07

Gotcha. And if you open the torrent client, then right click either of these torrents and "check" them, do they both finish at 100% complete?
Also are you extracting these from where they were downloaded, or did you copy them elsewhere, then extract them?

edit; The reason I'm asking for more info btw, is that bittorrent itself usually does a pretty good job at "checksumming" - AKA ensuring that people get the exact same file that everyone else gets - assuming that the download finishes to 100% that is. It's not unheard of though for it to reach 100% but have bad chunks invalidate the file. Running a check will fix this and the client will re-download the bad data. That's the only thing I can think of offhand really, I've tested with extracting both just now and they extract and run okay on both linux and windows and as far as i know, nobody else has had this issue.

For broken dreamers, yes, the recheck passed as 100% complete, but still failed to unpack.

For Willy D, I never tried to recheck, since it unpacked without errors, but as mentioned, the content itself was just wrong (compared to the proper download, iirc the rpdl version was both bigger and had files in the wrong places). This was a couple of weeks ago though, and I shrugged it off as a one off (tried to find some report feature on the site, but didn't occur to me to check here). I've since removed the torrent and download, so don't have more details now unfortuantely.

edit: for reference, Willy D 1.1.0 unpacked should have a size of 27 735 571 770 bytes and consist of 776 Files, 4 Folders
edit 2: and yeah, both were unpacked in the same drive/location as they were downloaded

Okay. hmm. If you have a moment could you open city of broken dreamers in 7z and test the archive? (I forget offhand where the option is exactly but it shouldn't be too confusing to find)

Sure, used the "Test archive" from the right-click-context menu, same errors as when trying to unpack:

My apologies in advance if this might be bad news but this did happen one time before, maybe 9ish months ago and it was eventually narrowed down to a dying hard drive or SSD - i forget which. Could that be a possibility here?

I'm not trying to pin blame or anything, the troubleshooting so far leads me to think it's something specific to you, or rather your pc. IE:
1. Nobody else (to my knowledge) appears to be having this issue
2. I can't replicate it
3. bittorrent has checks in place to make sure this doesn't happen (AKA me and you having different versions of the file)
4. you're using the right programs and your pc is fast enough to do it without concern. you've also verified the file

So that only leaves one thing I think, that being that the file itself appears to be fine but it cannot be read/extracted without error.

I hope it's not the drive and instead some weird fluke, but that's all I can really think of. I'll ping the other guys to see if they've encountered this before.

Just checked the CoBD and it unpacked just fine on 7-Zip 21.03 (I know, it's ancient).

I did just now try to redownload from scratch, and now it did indeed download without a hitch, including 7z testing, unpacking and launching the game. Sorry for sounding the alarm on that one. Am redownloading Willy D as well to check my sanity.

No problem at all! I'd far rather people reach out with stuff than keep shtum and go about their day. It was definitely an interesting problem lol, and I'm glad there isn't any more major issues too!

Just following up that it was indeed a memory problem, around memory adresses of 63GB, so I guess it didn't really surface in most circumstances (and it was part of a memory upgrade I was too lazy to memcheck when installing this last spring).

Sanity somewhat checked :HideThePain:

All that's left is to say thank you for keeping the service running, and the prompt replies here!

You just reminded me that with Halloween around the corner, we'll start getting the yearly batch of Halloween special releases..

As usual, your elf-like diligence is appreciated.
