There is severe lack of those translated i do agree, actually this one should be one of the better examples of things that actually got translation. i can get by with non translated VNs on some level using mtl since not being native Englsih speaker it does not grate my nerves as much and i can understand 80-90% of whats going on.

That's how it looks to you because it's not your fetish. You don't grok it, so you're overlooking that just as with the romantic stories you mentioned, the build-up is often the point in itself. I can assure that many fans of mind control do not just see it as a shortcut to the sex going by the amount of MC "porn" where the sex itself is an afterthought, or even not shown at all, just implied.

I tried that very early on as we got the first wave of mtl "official translations" in the sakuragame days. And even though i'm not native myself. Reading the prefix "-san" translated to "teacher" drove me so hard up the wall i never even wanted to read fan made mtl afterwards. :O

It is a deeply rooted angst that the male Japanese feels about his inability to get the girl by his own means, that it is appealing to have a narrative device that gives the girl to the reader. Take away the responsibility and you take away the angst and it makes for a relaxing reading.

I found that book (quoted in the spoiler) after I had a conversation with a female friend that married a Japanese man and pretty much what she told me in her experience is what it says in the page quoted. Once her husband started living outside Japan she had an easier time breaking him out of his shell.

Eh, if textractor is translating something weirdly i just take note and mentally fix it to be what it should be as i read. i don't need precise words to read through flow of conversation. And i am talking dozens of VNs here, so i guess it's just personal tolerance.

That might well be. I did have issues with shitty lip sync in the past and seemed to be the only one bothered by it, so i think my tolerance level is pretty low with technical, or writing fuck-ups.

Speaking of - you can lookup "Penlight" it's here on f95. Fwiw it is a decent exploration of hypnotism, while it have no actual sexual content (aside from mild nudity) it have some interesting ideas. It also suffers from author moral standpoint thoguh(a lot of unsatisfying endings if you force things) but i think people can get something out of it as exploration of the fetish at least.
