For future visitors of this game, this is a game I feel such an urge to write a post about, not because it's good, but because it's frustrating and misleading, the protagonist is stupid asf (and the game doesn't give you a choice, the protagonist just make the most bizarre decision for you, before getting pwn'd and mocked by Mary Sue)

I really wanted to LOVE this game, but in the end, it's a lie, you don't have a choice to be smart to have common sense.

Play it if you *only* like being outsmarted and feeling dumb towards women.

This is a Mary Sue power fantasy game, except you play as the ones being manipulated with exactly 0 paths of beating the Mary Sue.

AND you don't have a choice anyway, the game will make the choice for you to let you getting beaten by Mary Sue, for example, if you insist defying the Mary Sue, the protagonist would send the companion whose loyalty you questioned literally one sentence ago to spend time alone with Mary Sue (no you don't get to choose).

However, my opinion seemed to be the general consenus in this thread, as people with similar opinions in this thread (Bad or Mary Sue writing) mostly gets two digits of upvotes and hearts, while counter arguments from users and author are around 0 to 2 (Yes I read the whole thread, yes I know I should touch grass).

Because I really wanted to LOVE this game, but in the end, it's a lie.

Play this game if you like being outsmarted and feeling dumb towards women. (which to be fair is what I sometimes like when in the mood.) It might be a good femdom game.

Artwork is very hot though.

There is the ways to outplay her or even kill her. Or jump out from all of this whole situation. Devs just made the antagonist really dangerous, comparing to other, similar games.

you really can't win against her.... Not fond of having basically 2 routes abandond and free.... I would prefer if there was a way to actually win against her. There is ending that can be considerated as win but it is just us trading our lives which is more of a draw.... Welp good game but not fond of making her unbeatable. If only there was route where we actually win...

Depends what is you consider a win in such situation. MC can can become rich and famous in some endings. The only thing is not where is the "Everybody saved, all the evil ones punished". But its a tale about the mercenaries, not a paladins.

Kill Carmen/hand her to her emenies and get paid/make money or power from this situation without loosing your life or those of people you care about. It's that simple.

It isn't about good versus evil. It isn't about punishing anyone. It's about having a prisoner (without any special powers) at your mercy and handling her without Carmen turning tables on you. This should be possible. In this game, it's not.

You get a bit wrong. It's MC at her mercy. She has enough combat skills to kill him at any moment. And not the only him. The single reason why she don't do it, its cause she wanna play around some of her fetishes. That the spot where you can try outplay her.

Also, you have a route to save yours peoples from this mess. If you think what MC, what involves himself in nobles kidnapping and playing harsh politics, must become a good at some point of story.

She was kidnapped, remember? Did she also do that to partake in her kinks? Of course not, she was out cold. So - no, she can't just kill anyone. Also, it doesn't really matter if she is capable to take on Roman alone, because as someone who did fencing for some time I can guarantee: she can't take them all. It doesn't matter how good she is, against four experienced opponents simultaniously she's dead meat. I said four? She'd be in luck to take on two! That is if she even has a sword. And if they would absolutely refuse to use crossbows. If they use it or she doesn't have a sword - she's dead meat in 30 seconds tops. Unless she is Flash from DC or something.

There isn't route like that. The best I could find, Roman loses Yasha and becomes sort of apprentice to Carmen, waiting for his chance to outplay and kill her. All others are even worse. You become Carmen's plaything or that submissive half-orc plaything, or you die upon finishing the job, or you are betrayed and die, or you leave basically helpless prisoner (unless she can crush a wall or a door with a hit) and just escape because you're in awe or something.

By playing through multiple routes you can uncover that Roman's team were basically screwed from the start. Roman and Markus have both been promised very specific rewards which they know the Theocracy is unlikely to grant them unless they go through their employer. Glasha is loyal to Roman, and Crow was placed with them precisely to trigger some protective feelings in Roman. This creates a scenario where when they arrive at the safe house and their employer doesn't show up, the crew are forced to wait. They don't want to gamble on getting rewarded by someone else, they want to do their side of the job so they get what they were promised. The problem then is that while they're waiting, the Sanguine Rose military swarms the region, and makes it increasingly unlikely that they could transport Carmen. This was all by design. Their employer used the entire kidnapping as a distraction.

Could they kill Carmen if they made a real effort? Maybe. They're not four experienced opponents though. Glasha and Roman are experienced. Markus is handy with a knife but in an honest fight he loses to Roman every time, and Roman is far from an exceptional warrior. Again, the crew weren't selected because they're hyper-competent, they were chosen because they wouldn't want to kill Carmen, and wouldn't want to risk trying.

The game is about being stuck between a rock and a hard place, and the hard place is sometimes in your pants. It's not for everyone. I think if we made a route where you could unequivocally triumph over Carmen in a traditional sense, it would undermine the appeal of her in the other routes for the people who do enjoy the game. Kind of like how you don't get a weapon in some horror games. It's not a perfect game, but it's the one we wanted to make and I stand by it.

I can find a lot of holes in the rest, but this... I respect. I have one question though: is it still possible that you (without Dusky) would create more games like this (maybe with an option of a real win)?

Yeah but the win ending I consider is the one where we hold power over Carmen. It is not about justice or money. It is about proving yourself to be more capable then the one that challenged you. Afaik the endings I know can be described as follows:

I don't think it's possible be better than her on hers field, on the range of such short story, especially with so harsh starting conditions. On a long way, maybe, but, looking how is politics of that type is done in world around MC, Roman lose far more on this way, than a bunch of subordinates or personal freedom. But, at very far end of this evil and bloody route, he will overpower her.
Also, game has 5 epilogues and 10 ending with 4-5 categories. Try to check them all.

You never get to promote
Promote to who? You are bunch of kidnappers and scroundels in this game. Hers offer ( and is outcome ) is already too fantastic, cause it's better for any party to make all looks like the Roman team is never existed.

We were developing a very different kind of game when we parted ways, one that was intended to give more control to the player in how things shake out. I have some ideas if I do decide to return to the industry, and it would probably be in the same general direction. Nothing is currently in the works though.
