Indeed. It's part of the reason why it's taken so long to get to this point. We want to make a system for content that won't compound our work load when we add another creature.Smart.
That what I was planing for my game. IK won't always look perfect, but it will be "good enough". Even with the same skeleton makggn tons of animations is a nightmare. Now add different skeletons/sizes and your workload EXPLODES.
