For most it's having to see it and not wasting renders on it. It could have been implied or even after you rescue her you find out. That would still have the same dramatic effect for the plot, but not as much drama for the player base. Same for Meat's cum-dumpster, when she talks about what has happened to her in the past was more than enough to give her backstory and "sympathy points". To each their own though, it's the dev's story to do what he wants with, but if the goal is to build up a following for the game, doing something that is known to rile up the community is not the way to go.
