Sorry dude, I don't have the solution for your problem, but hilariously, that was more or less how it went down in the anime too. Well, unless much much later when anime-Makoto raises all the bad end flags. I think Kotonoha is supposed to appeal to people who like demure, reserved girls whereas Sekai is for people who like outgoing, upbeat, and assertive girls. Traditional eastern cultures prefer the former.
Well in Shiny days Sekai barely does anything while Kotonoha gets a ton of screentime and 2 whole endings which are probably better than her School days ones so unfortunate for you I guess.

But once it becomes apparent that Kotonoha isn't ready for sexy stuff, and he realizes there's another girl who's actually spending time with him and interested in the stuff he wants to do... then it becomes clear that Sekai is the winner. And then Kotonoha tries to step up her sexiness to win him back, but it's too late for her. You snooze, you lose.
I don't know if you've only seen the anime and played 2 Sekai routes but things go very differently depending on the choices you make. They form a much stronger emotional connection whereas with Sekai it's sex first, dating later maybe. Actually even in the anime he eventually goes back to Kotonoha because she's the only one who actually loves him despite his flaws. Your game didn't install properly. I had the same issue a few years ago. Don't use the installer and follow these instructions instead: Mount the first ISO file, copy the entire "School days" folder over to where you want the game. Mount the second ISO, copy the "School days" folder to the same place and let the folders merge. You should have a fully playable game in that folder now. Enjoy.
I already found the solution. An antivirus was indeed at fault, but I've already fixed it. And by the way, I bought the game from Jast USA, so I didn't have two ISO files, but five BIN files and installer and BIN to ISO conversion didn't work, so I couldn't even use this solution
I like your genuine opinions regarding the girls, I feel somewhat the same way but I just want to express a slightly difference of opinion on Kotonoha. I appreciate her character a little more and I don't mean that in a shy/ timid way, she's reserved, honest and I guess you could call it "conservative", but not (because obviously she's willing to go all the way), she's more flawed as a human showing that she is more relatable as opposed to Sekai or Setsuna.
Yeah, Makoto's writing can be pretty rough. It seems like his main trait is that he's never fully satisfied with his situation and always ready to whine about something. This is the narrative excuse for him to consider another route when there's no actual conflict. Like when he's trying to get with Kotonoha and finally does, he then starts complaining "now she wants it too much". Or whining to Sekai "why didn't you tell me about Paris earlier" when she didn't even know herself.
I don't know but I think the complain of Makoto is so relatable here: he gave up his first crush Kotonoha (to his best friend Taisuke) and then he was asked by Sekai to fully commit to the long-distance relationship..... I think it was too much to be asked to a hotheaded high schooler.
There is in school days: From the route of choosing Sekai at first but not to the point of actually having sex with her. And then Sekai will be insecure and stay at home when learning Setsuna is leaving for Paris. After Makoto joining the class representative and working with Setsuna more, keep higher favorability with Kotonoha still, then you will be able to do paizuri (Makoto doesn't want to push her too far while the threat from Setsuna was less comparing to Sekai/Otome, causing Kotonoha to be less forward).
This is on episode 6 of the "price of betrayal" route, the bottommost one on the map. You have to be with Kotonoha by chapter 4 (fucked her during the festival) but have higher Sekai points by end of chapter 5.
