I created this account just to occasionally download games, and never planned to ever write comments. But here I am, because the situation with the game has pushed me over the edge.
I've been following the development since around the time of COVID, and SoC really impressed me. I remember even creating a Patreon account and supporting the developer for about a year. But after a year of regular charges to my card, the game development went completely off track. The game stopped developing in terms of plot. Many secondary and tertiary characters appeared who have no gameplay impact, just porn for the sake of porn. And what's more, at some point you start getting confused about who you're in a relationship with and at what stage. Stability issues - the game crashed on random events before, and it still crashes now. They added a huge number of niche fetishes, which at some point started to cause irritation. And so on.
The SoC developers at some point realized that instead of releasing their game, it would be more profitable to engage in an eternal work-in-progress, and sit on a gold mine with endless money. I went to their Patreon page, and they get 9k+ euros per month, which is equivalent to almost 10k dollars. That's not including Steam sales. Not a bad monthly income for a game that hasn't even approached stage 0.9 beta in 9 years of development.
And this isn't just a problem with SoC. As soon as money starts flowing to a developer, the development speed significantly drops down. The same problem exists with Moochie and his PhotoHunt, which has been in development since the closure of his first project, BigBrother. He didn't want to finish the first game, and he doesn't intend to finish the second one either. It's most profitable to work for about two or three days a month, release an update, earn about 6-7k bucks from it, and spend the rest of the time doing whatever you want. Brilliantly devised. LonaRPG is the same story, but at least its development is already at stage 0.9.8, and I hope to see the game's release this year.
The entire adult game industry today boils down to a broke developer creating their game out of enthusiasm, releasing it in some digestible form, and then dropping the ball and digging gold from their donors until support finally dies out. Then they release another one, dig money from a new flock, and the cycle continues. And it's sad because we as players become unwitting hostages to the situation.
I´m disappointed about modern adult gaming (especially SoC) and see no future in it.
