No, this is a common misconception. Until the high middle ages (and in many countries even deep into the early modern period) any knight could make any other man a knight. Most of the privileges and rights that a knight had were only as enforceable as his sword was sharp. Another common misconception you have is that you are conflating knighthood with nobility. Every noble was a knight, but not every knight was a noble. What made a man a noble varied from kingdom to kingdom, country to country. In some it was relation to the king, in others it was the lands one owned and in some lands nobility could be bought with gold or piety (taking the clothe and becoming a priest). What made a man a knight mostly meant that he rode a horse, wore armor and carried a sword and lance proficiently. And the other knights had to recognize him as such. This was very important and it meant that if a man knighted himself he would have to defeat his naysayers in combat. A large part of why the knights did not dilute themselves to accolade just about anybody who they liked was that you were expected to fight, you were a warrior and it didn't matter how badly you were going to lose, your name was only as good as you gave in battle.

I brought up Achilles primarly for the reason that he is heroic and well known. Although he himself was a king, he was not the king leading the Acheans against the Trojans though all the Acheans looked to him for leadership. I brought up William Marshall because he started with nothing but a sword and with that sword he won himself a castle almost single-handedly. I could have brought up a number of men-at-arms or some of the members of the White Company that started in a similar position to Rowan were accoladed and enobled but they aren't well known.

If the life of William Marshall Earl of Pembroke was made into a fantasy video game people would reject it for being too unrealistic. Not for the dragons and orcs and shit but because even his piss was full of excellence. If even half the stories about him are true and the other half complete bullshit he still would still probably be unbelievable.

I have not been following the realism debate, however different memebers of the team have different views on its role in the game. It ranges from "We want a dark but grounded fantasy story" to "It's a porn game, stop thinking about it".

I always advocate for making stuff plausible enough. Not everything needs to make perfect sense 100% of the time - people can act out of character, people can randomly meet when the plot needs them to, that kind of stuff. As long as it's not egragious, it's fine.

Moreover, in the past week there have been some interesting points about realism with a focus on the consideration of Rowan's worthiness as a general as portrayed by the game. One of the Devs even revealed their views on the role of realism in the game. I'd say that makes this forum pretty interesting.

The bit about decoupling Alexia's plots from the Ruler events is pretty interesting too from a game design standpoint.

There are 734 pages of stuff on SoC here. A lot of it is bullshit. But there is really interesting stuff too.

It's also perfectly plausible to have paid for some of the free shit available here -- personally while yes, i do take advantage of the free shit, i've bought Steam version of SoC simply because i think what they made, and keep making, well deserves some cash incentive to keep going.

LA is the main writer on Andras NTR, me and Hooky occassionaly help out.

Are you kidding? Other than Rowan x Alexia, there’s more content for Andras x Alexia than any other pairing. More Jezera x Alexia (enough to match her brother’s content) and X’zaratl x Alexia x Rowan (just because I’m greedy) would be nice.

Or Rowan x Alexia, there isn't much content for both. Or Rowan x Jezera (much less content iirc). Or X'zatralt x Rowan in Rowan dominant role. Or some plot-schemes while fucking with Rowan's protege under the nose of X'zaralt. Or an orgy with Clamin and her family to later invite Rowan's Friend (Greyhide) for extra fun with Alexia (if she had high corruption) and maybe with Helayna too (but perhaps i'm being just too ambitious ).

There is more Rowan X Jezera planned, and it's one of my main priorities this year. (the other being Tue-San plot and Asterte rework).
X'zaratl is delayed until the above is wrapped up, but I will promise we will see a finale for her.
